SevenTests BT Video

Post by -SuPreMe- » Mon Mar 29, 2010 11:22 am

A few members here have been struggling with the instagib BT on MH-SevenTests so i thought id post a video of me doing the track so they can see the trouble spots and possibly learn the easiest way of doing them.

Enjoy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlqLYyxxFWs

I recorded this by 1st making a UT demo with demo manager, then recording it with a full version of FRAPS that i managed to obtain

Nice!!

But if you can try to record the video again using behindview, so people can know exactly when it´s best to dodge or jump, etc.

Thanks

I think the most important thing is the angle of which you jump to the next platform by doing so maximizing the jump distance making it harder to slip off or jump too far, for example jumping from corner to corner instead of middle to middle if that makes sense, the sticks are a good example for this instead of jumping on them in a straight line, jump on them diagonally.
Just follow the direction my cross hair is pointed in and that should help

One thing I've recently learned is that the way you spin your body while dodging and the way you "aim" with the head of your player can affect the length of side-dodges. I mean I used to fail at some hard side-dodges cause I tend to look at my own feet instead of aiming in front of me or in certain rare cases you even need to look at the ceiling while dodging.
Well the video is alright, but the next time maybe you could record it at half the speed for newbies and add also 3rd person view.
BTW one of the hardest spots in the map is the cones...

P.S. You used DemoManager v3.0, right? Cause there are several versions of that program around, and some of them are pretty buggy (*cough* DemoManager v3.2).

P.P.S. Insta secondary fire = stones? WTF lol

Yeah its allways important to be aiming the right direction, that being the primary reason i recorded in 1st person.

As for the cones the only thing i can suggest is skipping the 2nd cone then u have half the chance of failing on them.

And i think i used Demo manager v2.0 somthing, i found some links for 3.0 but they required me to sign up to some stupid site so i just downloaded the 1st one i could get.
I might record some more demos and upload them, maybe some of us all on MHM rushing through some maps.
Only anoying thing is its quite a long process of converting all the videos so they arent 1GB+ and dont take ages to upload to youtube lol

The stones lol they are from an old keybind from the admin days on gopo's test server

I made an UT video a long time ago and I remember I used HyperCam2 free version and there was an option to use the DivX codec (if installed) to directly record the movie. Since DivX is a compressed format the output file was not that huge.

Flawless Victory!

Good job, there, Supreme.
Some of those jumps, I cannot seem to make at all.
I can see how you cover the gaps with the forward dodge but some of those jumps seem impossible to me.
I haven't noticed a difference but are there "jump advantages" to certain skins?
Are some skins better for BT (programmed physics or just laggy)?

I think skins are like a body on a Funny Car - they are just for looks. (barring any aerodynamic features anyway)
They use a model and a cover (the skin), but the movement, etc., is all the same.
Excepting for special moves of different skins, but they are governed the same.
Just my opinion though - based on my mapping experience with bot AI, etc.

Everyone seems to get how to make the dodge now (shift+front dodge) so now look at the video how to do the rest.
If you just practice it slowly not much can go wrong...

Actually it's Walk button + front dodge, if you say shift and the others have a different keybind it won't work.
Anyway good job with the video.

There's a console command that works with Demo Manager v3 or higher:

slomo 0.5
for half the speed,
slomo 2
for twice the speed, etc.

The only thing skins affect in BT are your jump, pain and death noises

This thread makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside folks. There is good work done here in an effort to assist others who just didn't know how to do stuff before. This topic right here is GOLD to me because this is the latest best example of what I wish all forums were like and what I know this one provides more often than not. Thank you very much people . You have done me very proud! This is why I do what I do when I do it as far as being a part of this community.
~Peace~
