slim pickin's

Post by Helen » Fri May 27, 2011 11:34 pm

I was just on CG, only 8 maps to choose from in list one! I don't think I've ever seen that. Usually the list is crammed. But, good choices in the list :)

No way there were only 8. The master server must be screwed. I think there are about 75 or so to choose from but I too saw something like this the other day for the entire list. I'll check it out anyways and thanks for mentioning it. CYA!

Oh not normal? Ok. The second list was slim too. There were 8 in the first one, and 9 in the second.

The odd thing was that about 5 of the maps were mine. I remember seeing coke, coke][, cube]I[, and fedge in the first one, and draven in the second one. Maybe it was just listing recently played maps. I had just finished playing cube]I[ before the map vote came up.

I just got done playing CG also.

38 maps total loaded and listed in MapVote.
Column 1 = 8 maps
Column 2 = 9 maps
Column 3 = 2 maps
Column 4 = 19 maps

Yes, all good maps though.

I'm totally wrong here! See how easy it is for me to say when I'm wrong. Yes, I am wrong. My bad.

I misunserstood Helen's first post and read it as that there were only 8 maps offered at CG. I knew there were more than eight and I also associated that for some reason with the master server list recently telling me there were only 23 DM servers running. I was going to mention that I had seen the master server display the wrong number of servers recently and had for some reason associated that problem with what I thought was Helen's problem with only seeing 8 maps on my server.

You see people....I am obviously confused. LOL. So let's get it all straight now not that it isn't already.

Helen, yes there are only slim pickins on CG right now. Over the years I had people gripe about wanting new maps. I had about 230 maps on the server at the time. I checked my reports and saw that a great many of them had not been played but maybe once in the last several YEARS! Rather than add more new maps, I decided to remove the top 100 played maps of the last 5 years. Then I decided to go ahead and remove the next top 100 played maps leaving about 25 or so but then I added in several of yours adding up to whatever you see on the list now. I'm HOOK's count is flawless. I will be adding maps back in and I do want to add new onces as well.

Here is a thought: I'd love to see a way to make sure that all maps get cycled no matter what but to do that I'd have to remove mapvote. Is there a way to have mapvote mandate a map that is on the hasn't been played list say every 3rd map? Good idea huh!!!

You can make mapvote reload the maps after they all have been played. Is that what you are wanting?

Isn't there a setting where after a map has been played, you can say it can't be played again for X number of games? You could set that value very high (but lower than the total number of maps in the column). This would make a greater number of maps unavailable for quite awhile, forcing the players to choose amongst a small number of maps that haven't been played.

Yes, in MapVote it is called the "elimination" setting.
Each time a map is played, it is taken out leaving only maps that haven't been played left to pick from.
Yes, you can set it to RE-set itself once the map roster is down to a certain set number of maps left un-played.
Then it starts all over again.
Look over at my forums in the Server HOW TO section under MapVote Explained.
It gives the information there, I am 99.99% sure.

Herm - You are missing a map that would play very nicely with Redeemer Arena.
DM-lol-Monopoly
Its on my new Battle Server if you would like to take a look... Its a must see! I dont have any Deemer Arena mods so you cant really play it that way yet. Still looking for a good Arena mod for that.

Hmm... after looking at that map closely, maybe its not for CG after all. Its got some adult themes thrown here and there. Nothing vulgar or nudity, or harsh language but Adult nonetheless. Im sure youll get a chuckle out of it and it looks like the mappers had a blast making it. It makes for a great redeemer map. Im sure someone could go in and make a cleaner version.

Those map favourites have been off of the server for quite some time now. What is the average player count now on CG, compared to before those maps were removed?

I would suggest putting them all back onto the server, and if some really awesome maps fall by the wayside, so be it.

Besides, you could always show up every now and again, and ask the players present to play "DM-UnpopularGoodMap" with you because you want their opinions on it. I'm sure most would oblige. ;)
I'm a man........but I can change........if I have to........I guess

I have not tracked to see who is playing on CG but I'm sure the loss of maps has hurt. I'll get them back on. God knows I've had enough request already to do so!
