Newbie or oldbie, if I experience any of that stuff you could call me GONE.
Just my opinion though.

If you're new and looking for advice or just want to give some advice this is the place to post.

The latest I have heard is "Where is your Server...How do I find your Server"?
Basically whenever you're looking for any server you first need to start your game.
Once your game/UT is running hit the ESC key.
A menu bar will appear across the top of the screen.
Now click on Multiplayer.
From there click Find Internet Games.
This will bring up your Unreal Tournament Server Browser.
Here you will see many options or game types for UT.
All Redeemer mod type games can be found under the Deathmatch
or the UT Server section.
Once you click on Deathmatch a variety of servers will pop up.
Find the server you are looking for and then click to play.
Or better yet, right click first and add to your favorites for future use.

If any MapVote (not only the LA v1.3) is on the server all you have to do as a player to bind a key in game is:
Hit the tab key and type mutate bdbmapvote votemenu.
Then go to config tab and bind key >the backspace key is what most people use.

And for those servers that use the ASC/Nexgen console the command is:
mutate asc#get#window

Individual files (*.utx, *.int, *.u, *.unr, *.uax, *.umx etc.)

If you downloaded a ZIP file containing individual files (many maps and a few skins are still packaged this way), here's where to put them. All should go in subfolders of your Unreal Tournament folder.

*.txt, *.htm and *.html files are the instructions. Read them now. If you want to keep them for later reference, put them in the Help subfolder.
*.u, *.int and *.ini files are UnrealScript-related. They go in the System subfolder.
*.utx files are textures and images, and go in the Textures subfolder.
*.uax files are sound packages, and go in the Sounds subfolder.
*.umx files are digital music and go in the Music subfolder.
*.unr files are maps and go in the Maps subfolder.

To uninstall, you'll have to remember what you installed and delete the files yourself.

What is Valhalla Avatar?

Valhalla Avatar (VA) is a mod that allows clients to use any model, skin, or voicepack on a server, regardless of whether or not it is installed server-side. Many games, such as the later Quake games (2 &3) already have this supported, unfortunately UT's custom content system is quite limited. Many have wished for a more custom content friendly sytem in Unreal Tournament, and I created this mod as an answer.

I just joined a VA server. Are there any new console commands I should know about?

Yes. Please note that the following commands will ONLY work if you are a player. Spectators will be supported in the full version.

Help :arrow: Help on the following commands or general command information.

SetDefault :arrow: Specify the class name of the model you wish to revert to if you do not have one a player is using installed.

SetGestureTime :arrow: Specify the delay between gestures. If you choose 0, no gestures will play. Ignored when gameplay has finished.

TeamSay :arrow: Yes, it is the same command as normal UT (use key R). Yet, this one has enhancements to tell about info. Use the following switches and infomation will be insterted:

%H - inserts your health.
%W - inserts the name of the weapon you are holding.
%A - insters the amount of armor you have.
%P- CTF ONLY! Calculates what you appear to be doing and inserts it in.

ChangeMyTeam<team> :arrow: This simply changes your team to the number you place afterward. I recommend using the CSHP commands however, if that mod is installed on the server.

More commands will come in VA full!

You may also use the menus by hitting ESC. Valhalla Avatar adds a new menu tab, which will be removed upon logging off from the server.

How to add a server to your favourites quickly

- Launch Unreal Tournament;
- Press the ESC key;
- A menu bar will appear across the top of the screen;
- Click on the Multiplayer menu;
- Select Find Internet Games;
- Select the Favourites tab;
- Right click on a blank space or on a previously saved server;
- Choose New Favourite;
- Insert the IP address of the server, the port number and the query port number (which is usually the port number + 1) and remember to check the Automatic Description Update (or whatever is it called) box;
- (optional) Press the F5 key in order to refresh the list

Quick Demo Tutorial by *POTS*

Launch UT, open your console then type:

demorec <DemoName> to record the game;
stopdemo to stop the recording (it automatically stops at the end of the game if no input is given);
demoplay <DemoName> to view the game.

For example: Demorec mygame
It will start recording a demo called mygame

If you want to see your recorded demo in 3rd person mode, use the following command:

demoplay <DemoName>?3rdperson

All demo files will be stored into your UnrealTournament\System directory as *.dem files

WARNING: demos require ALL server packages (custom maps included) of the server in which the demo has been recorded to be downloaded and/or installed on your machine. You'd better save your cache files once you have left the server. It's not easy to search for all required packages, once they've been deleted.

An alternative way to save the required files is to open your UnrealTournament.INI file located into your UnrealTournament\System folder, then search for the PurgeCacheDays entry and set it to an incredibly high value.

Be careful also when you're using custom packages like the Sexy Announcer for example, they can cause package mismatches if you're planning to share your recorded demos.

Tip: go to http://www.ut-files.com/index.php?dir=Utilities/udemo/ and download the latest Demo Manager, it saves you a lot of troubles, even if it's a bit buggy.

What is the infamous De.u package?

It's the UT Bonus Pack #2, also known as Digital Extremes Pack, available here:
http://files.filefront.com/UTBonusPack2 ... einfo.html

Content:

- 2 new CTF maps:
CTF-HallOfGiants
CTF-Orbital
- Volatile Ammo mutator
- Volatile Weapon mutator
- Team Beacon mutator

This file is well known for mismatch errors. The best thing to do is renaming your installed files to (for example) De~u.bak and De~int.bak instead of deleting them, so you can easily restore them whenever needed; otherwise you can also move them into a folder different from UnrealTournament\System. The same rule applies to all other troublesome files.

:!: Above all, never install the DE.UMOD pack that comes with the Bonus Pack 2! Just install those two CTF maps. You already have a DE set of mutators after a fresh UT installation, so do NOT overwrite them!

It's basic Redeemer 101.
Get atop the tallest building, mountain...etc so you'll have a strategic view of all your
surroundings. Look for movement and spawning. Watch for guided missiles and follow
back to the source. I can't tell you how many times I've been accused of cheating
when all I was doing was watching and waiting.

Good advice! :wink:

A question...
Klownz has said this (true or not?) that you and him move around or run around a LOT when you play.
You and him are on the move more than anybody he knows when playing.
What advantage does this have - other than not being found where someone thinks you are?

I tend to move around a lot too.
This I have learned by watching the masters.
Unfortunately, I tend to move around INTO an errant missile blast.
Kind of like in baseball - the unearned run.

Thank me.

It really depends on the map.
Obviously the smaller maps you have no choice but to stay binned down
and spray/pray or loop of poop your way to a victory.
The key to the smaller map is in finding a strategic location.
On larger maps players are more inclined to be scattered throughout so I
have a tendency to move about. (plus I don't want to be a sitting duck)
But again, it really depends on the map.
Some larger maps I'm always on the move while others I'll find that one
strategic spot where I can watch...wait...then react.
Then there are a few maps where I'll hide and guide...but I only hide when
it's necessary and/or where you can't find me.
Honestly I'm actually no better then a lot of player but one of the
advantages I have is that I know my maps. I've spend endless hours
exploring maps...so I hardly ever get lost...plus I use my translocator
while moving. I see way to many players running with their redeemers out.
For me a good defense is a good offense.
