Server Crash... or sumthing.

Post by [J]Man » Wed Oct 31, 2007 1:08 am

Okay, now there's this other thing that I got in mind.
lol, i'm srry i'm adding more stress in ur bag Herms, but it's those small little things that matter, right? :lol:
Ok, I wanted to ask why the BirdBrainResearch map always seems to crash man.
There are times when a few UT buddies and I want to play there, like The Supreme One and Janel and other dudes when i'm around.
Once BirdBrains wins on map vote, the "inevitable" happens.
The map can crash:
-before loading
-after loading
-before starting the match
-and finally, at any point of the game

Soi i'm wondering if it's the map that's crashing or wazzup? When I go on different MHM servers [srry!] it doesn't crash at all.
I'm not saying that the one here ALWAYS crashes, iz just that it has its random moments that everyone gets ticked off about.
Well, i'm done wit that. Any response? :mrgreen:

Old news

Post by Hermskii » Wed Oct 31, 2007 11:07 pm

This is actually old news. The server crashes about 4 times a day. The error that crashes it usually reads something along the lines of a timer on a piece of wood or guts lasted to long. Here is one of the several different verions of the error I get:

Log: Possessed PlayerPawn: ALplayer MH-BirdBrainedResearch.ALplayer5
Critical: AActor::TestCanSeeMe
Critical: AActor::PlayerCanSeeMe
Critical: UObject::ProcessEvent
Critical: (Bird1 MH-BirdBrainedResearch.Bird85, Function UnrealShare.Bird1.Dying.Timer)
Critical: AActor::Tick
Critical: TickAllActors
Critical: ULevel::Tick
Critical: (NetMode=1)
Critical: TickLevel
Critical: UGameEngine::Tick
Critical: UpdateWorld
Critical: UServerCommandlet::Main
Exit: Executing UObject::StaticShutdownAfterError
Exit: Exiting.
Uninitialized: Name subsystem shut down
Uninitialized: Log file closed, 10/31/07 20:03:44

So there you have it. I have been aware of this issue for about a year now. I have researched it and nobody can tell me why it happens. The maker of BirdBrained Research said that he thought it was due to a bad network connection. My connection is now twice as good as when this problem started and it still crashes 4-5 times daily.

This problem is exactly why I'm planning on rebuilding the servers. I hope to see the issue go a way with a fresh rebuild. The problem is that I have 2 kids now and I have no time at all so I haven't tried yet. I admit that I'm lazy and tired too.

No sweat about piling on the troubles here. I said I'd listen and I have. I didn't say I'd do anything but most likely will. I didn't say when but it will happen eventually. This is why Kort made a total backup of my server. So she can run it as I rebuild mine. I just haven't had the time yet. Sorry. Later!
~Peace~

It's more complicated then that.
All of the settings are the same.
The problem is the box the game is installed on and the file systems non-perishables. lol.

The longer you run a server the more bad stuff grows. Eventually it will slow performance and bog down the whole system. Windows is notorious for this.
You have to reset the server every once and a while just to clean out the trash completely.

If the server was ran on linux it would be much cleaner and less maintenance. Less things would build up or make server crash.
But I think Herms is just in need of a clean install of everything.
MHM has been up a while now. Its long over due to a fresh rebuild.

interesting, but there's always a bad side to things

Yes, Teamspeak does sound like an awesome idea nd it would be awesome b/cuz sumtimes txt cannot describe a direction to sumwhere for a newbie on a map.
The bad side of this is if sumone gets in an argument with another, then there will be screaming and crying and lots of stuff would happen.
I mean, look back at the time when Supreme posted skin codes.
Krazy man!
I don't want to see that kind of hate around MHM dudes.
Anyone agree? :mrgreen:

HOLY CRAP!! I don't kno how i did that!! I did not copy and paste and why did i place the TS thing here?
Dude, this is an extreme case of 'wtf?' for me man. Too much to handle.
Well, I hope we all had our laughs and made fun of one happy [J]Man. :lol:
As for wat i meant before, Supreme, is that there can be a time when some guy insults someone or makes a joke that involuntarily offends another.
Then it goes with the 'i didn't mean it' thing and the offended person won't believe them.
Arguments by text are one thing, but through TS it goes beyond so many levels.
I'm sure some of you have witnessed this or kno wat i mean.
I just wanted to point that out, and as for my 'mistake' i'll post it up on the other thread. thanks for letting me kno!! :mrgreen:
