Post by -SuPreMe- » Mon Jul 27, 2009 12:03 am

MHM Village is finally ready for the server :mrgreen:
Herm if u could please upload this to MHM that would be great
all the compressed uz files and server packages that u need should be there.

Me and Hellfire have added a few additions and ironed out the glitches, now the map is running nice and smoothly 8)

Thanks to POTS for getting the map and files server ready and uploading it.

and ofcorse thanks to Gopo for starting the map and all the hard work he put into it,
I hope u can try it out and see our additions

Just one more important thing: the three system files need to be added in the ServerPackages list.

Code: Select all

[Engine.GameEngine]
...
ServerPackages=MHTransBlue
ServerPackages=NaliBarKeeper
ServerPackages=villagemonsters
...

That's all I think. 8)

It looks good but you might fix a couple of minor things and one major: The lift on Bio's temple is not behaving right, the waterzone in the spawnpool you added needs the ambient light set to make it look more realistic, and the one major thing is there is a massive bsp error by the lava sliths in Hellfires house. About a 1/5th of the house dissapears on me if I go up there. If you look at BSP cut view you can see the village part is still very much a salad of colors even with the other things removed. It's not your fault, its mine for all those stupid cottages, but you probably aren't going to fix it without an overhaul. I'd bet the errors will probably change on each loading too. I did a quick rebuild and they shifted to pots house along that really hot fracture line that lies from POTS to Rei's. That could very well happen on a server, as well as any number of other things.

Oh, and I would for sure remove all those biterfish. Biterfish are in the same category as the chunks and fragments problem MH has. They can cause a server seg fault and crash simply by blinking out of existence when people are looking around them. I'll never use them again after reading on the problem.

To be honest I haven't had the required time to test this version, so thank you very much for your indications gopo. :)
Hope HellFire and Supreme can sort things out, though. :|

I hope that didn't come across as picking at faults. The village map is going to go down as a major disappointment because of my poor planning, so if you guys get on there and it has problems it's not anyone's fault but mine. I don't know that anyone can fix that map correctly.

I didn't want to make it a really awesome spawnpoint so I just made it really quick.
I don't know of I'll fix it because I'm more concerned about the major things.

Anyways, before editing anything I want to hear what Supreme's opinion is.
Fix it or leave it?

Thanks for the compressed files POTS and thanks for the info gopo.

HERE is a mirror of your map files that will be much faster.

Also in there is an "A" version for you guys to look at. It has the cottages removed and towers set for the houses. If you open both maps and look at the bsp view you'll see a huge improvement in the cuts. If it were me, I'd spend about 45 minutes a tower and import the personal things into each, decorate them up, and slide them into the cottage's spot. It won't be hard, its mostly moving. You'll need to fix the elevators for each, as I broke the tags so each lift was independent, but thats a minor thing. You could probably even get away with putting the jets back in now.

I'm on vacation so that means leave the testing to me.

I'm downloading the map from the link Gopo posted.

Again, thank you very much Supreme, Hellfire, POTS and of course, Gopo. 8)

Here are a couple of rough screencaps of the errors (this is standing by the sliths):

This is exactly what I mean about this map. Errors may come and go, depending on the whim of the server rendering. You can't map your way out of it either. There are just too many cuts converging on that spot. If you move the house, the cuts will simply move too.

I'm mapping the FINALA version with the towers right now.
I'll see how this works out..

Thanks for all your input Gopo, but i really really dont wannna work on this map anymore :( lol
I just want it over and done with.

The map does have its bugs but its been on a server in a much worse state so before we decide to change anything id like to see how it runs on MHM.

Thats what I'm trying to tell you. As it sits it's going to crash the server pretty often. If you get Herm to add a map that is bad trouble like this he's going to be very hesitant to do another.

I'm not trying to "oversee" this project, but the village has been an absolute dumpster fire of a creation and I'd really like to see it at least partially fixed.

@Hellfire: do you see how fast it rebuilds now? It's not having to compute all that intersecting crap. You might even make the tower mesh be semi-solid to help even more, though I don't think it will need it. I didn't check the actual mover for each tower's elevator, you might need to reset the keypoints on each one. I'm not sure if dragging the entire building also moves the keypoint. You *can* manipulate each building though, insofar as to add or delete. It is not a single mesh like the houses.

I also prefer the village..
Is there no way to remove that BSP?
To make the towers and everything work also will take ages..

Anyways I made some fast examples of how it will look like:
