Altitude sickness

Post by a nameless entity » Tue Aug 09, 2011 2:48 pm

Well I have been playing the map DM-UCMP3-Altitude a lot lately. Why? Because a while back when I was configuring my key assignments for the Chaos mod, I noticed that there is a move you can do that is unique to the mod. So I have been using it to put the boot to the bots a lot lately, and it works best on the map Altitude. It also works well on DM-Spacenoxx. ;)

It seems that the game cannot show an animation for this unique move, but you do hear a very satisfying sound effect when you are successful in implementing it. So put on your boots and join me in the server for a free demonstration. Just don't shoot me as you follow me around, and watch and see the bots die in a fun way.

Not to feign ignorance, but where precisely is that server?

It's in Herm's garage in Texas, I believe. ;)

LOL! That was a plan at one point and maybe it will still happen. I have 2,000 square foot home and it has a 500 square foot game-room built on the back of it! Yes, my man-cave is bigger than yours! The servers reside in that gameroom. They all are run from a single Intel computer. It stays about 100 degrees in that room during the day and cools to about 82 at night right now. My main PC is in there too. I tend to wait until late at night and then I kick on a wall unit AC in there and open the sliding glass door to the rest of the house to supplemnt my cooling efforts. The room cools down in about 5 minutes.

I'm going to get a wireless laptop so I don't even need to go in there anymore I hope. That will save plenty of electricity. I also hope to move all of the servers to my old laptop and run them from it. It is an old Dell Latitude C640. It will stay much cooler and require far less power to stay on 24/7.

Pretty good gameplay, not sure if I was playing bots or not but it was fun.

2 little issues:

1) Not so much just your site as a few ut2k4's I've been on, but for some reason hitting 'Home' on the keyboard brings up some kinda advertisement thingy. I use that key to center my view so that's just annoying.

2) Most ut2k4 IPs use ut2004:// as the start of their address but yours doesn't seem to work that way when I put it as ut2004://98.197.145.227:7787/ cuz I linked it to my site. Dunno if it's on your end or mine that this is an issue.

The home key is the default mapvote key on Herm's server, I think.

UT2Vote59 is the version of MapVote I use on this server. It uses the home key by default to bring up a MapVote screen. When you first join a game there it tells you that on the welcome screen. If You hate thet, you will need to change the keybind in your user.ini is where I think the setting is.

You have a site? A site you linked this server to? Where is it. Don't be afraid! LOL

I dont know if it matter but try to use all caps in the shortcut launch link and you might want to get rid of that slash at the very end too. let me know. I'll post one if yours still doesn't work. I never use it for UT32K4 so I don't know what would be wrong.

You need to set it to allow anonymous messages. I tried to reply without registering and it said no. I think it looks like a good place there on LiveJournal.

When Redeemer Arena Only Mod was first found and played by us, we only had default maps and small DM maps to play it on. there are pages and pages of back and forth arguments about how big the maps should be and how much skill is required to play them. I'm not against big maps at all but there is certainly plenty of skill required to spawn in a small map with other great players and win. It can't be argued that what I say is true. At the same time the learning and skill curve was too tight for most so they did not hang around long enough to get any good. I tried to post that on yoyr journal.

I also want to say that I like that you post a link to the topic from here that you discuss there. Thank you for that!
