Hang on to your UT Maps and files...

Especially your MAPS!!!
The mods can be re-made for the most part but Not the great maps so much!

Here and there I look for UT Maps online and Save the URLs.
I go back and visit them occasionally, looking and downloading.
I notice more and more that a lot of these online Map locations are disapearing.
Many URLs that I found just this summer of 2010 are gone now!
No more UT site associated with the URL even!

One that had a lot of UT files on it http://www.unrealtexture.com doesn't any more.
The site is there but the files are gone it looks like.
Hopefully they are re-doing the site or something.

Other sites that were there even up until recently are gone entirely.

I wonder how long it will be until "HOH" House Of Hermskii's here and my site "HUTP" Hook's UT Place are the Very Last UT sites left?

While a majority have passed away, I suspect plenty will remain for a long time. I hope they do. The presure would really be on me to work on my stuff if I were really one of the last we'll say 5 or 10 UT related websites. I think Skillz will stay around forever too.

It is discouraging to see so many long time, quality fan-sites getting scrapped.
There are a few who continue to carry the torch.
The demise of TNT Sniper Playground has created and enhanced several splinter sniper sites. FEAR, CoPS, SOP and FSB are still very active.
I highly recommend branching out, if for no other reason than letting players know who you are and that you support their UT efforts. Think of it as networking!

I use UT Cache Cleaner but I do not save stuff to my UT installation.
That folder can be set in the interface before you run the Clean function.
I (obviously) have an MH map or 2 but also some noteworthy DM maps from several years of playing.

Oh what to do with them all.....

OK - Whew...
The Unreal Texture site Downloads is back. (see 1st post)
They were just re-doing it a bit is all.
BUT - this is still happening a lot so take advantage of these DL online stashes while you still can!
I had just began a "UT File Exchange" back in early October 2009 over at my forums HUTP, just for this reason of UT sites disappearing.
I guess I had better continue with its development, so it will be in place when other sites are not there any more.
