Happy Christmas from the High Desert..

Just like Hermskii stated, remember what Christmas is really for.

Enjoy your family and friends during this time.

Have a Great and Safe New Year as well.
Are you going to pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?

Hi Terraniux. It seems like it has been a long time since we have talked. I hope you are well. Please be sure to tell me what that is a picture of in the first place. It looks like what I would call big hush-puppies but we don't put powdered sugar on hush-puppies.

There are lots of superstitions in the United States when it comes to New Years Day and what to eat for good luck. The one that come to mind first are Black-Eyed Peas.

We call it: oliebollen
which litterally means 'oil balls' ... the 'batter' that is created from certain ingredients will be formed in your hands to a certain shape, like a ball or something, we fry it , and then we put some sugar power on it. You can compare it a little with frying donuts.

I'm sure Ironchef knows about it, he is the king of the kitchen.

Ahhhh! OK. Thanks for explaining that to us. I was getting really worried they were Rocky Mountain Oysters. LOL

BTW people, I am a person who loves to try odd foods out but only when I know it is cooked the way it is supposed to be cooked and after I see several others eat it first. At that point, I'm usually wide open to eating nearly anything.

I have not tried Rocky Mountain Oysters but I know they have giant festivals for these things and I would try them if I were ever to go to one of these festivals.

There is a show on TV where this guy goes around eating everything everywhere. I'd love to be there with him doing it too but even he eats stuff that I would not eat. if I were ever filthy rich, I'd hire in a Japanese chef and take him to a Japanese market here. I'd buy all of the things that look interesting that I have never eaten and have him cook it up for me finger food style. Then I would have a massive chow down!

I am all about a good buffet too! Love them!!! I prefer to see what I'm about to eat and love picking through them getting a taste of everything that looks good to me. I might have to go to Chinese Food Buffet today now that I'm getting my hunger all worked up.
~Peace~

My Dad is a Mason and He and I would go to an Annual game supper put on by a nearby Masonic Lodge. You get to try all sorts of different game meat and dishes. Rocky Mountain Oysters were usually there too and I remember trying them. Honestly, if cooked in a well seasoned batter and fried right, they taste pretty good...after a while it becomes a mental thing and you just don't care to seek them out any more, LoL

In any case, Terraniux, I love any kind of fried pastry so im sure I would enjoy those oliebollen. :D
