First off, I know some/many people here uses Firefox of Chrome or what ever might be out there, but this issue is about Internet Explorer 8. Yes Microsoft is the greedy, world dominating, software tyrant, but I still use it and I live with it.
Anyway, I am not sure if anyone else had the issue of a major slow down on opening Internet Explorer or a new tab in Internet Explorer but I did. It took 20-30 seconds to open up. But I found the solution and I wanted to share (free of any cost unlike Microsoft)
Try to reset your IE8:
> * Close all the open windows.
> * Go to start > Control Panel.
> * Open Internet Options.
> * Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.
> * Click Reset and OK.
Resetting IE8 solved the problem for the three computers that I have.

Hey, that's a good idea, David but let's think about WHAT might have caused your settings to go awry in the first place.
The first thought is Malware of Spyware tried to hijack your browser, so update your scanner and do a full scan. I don't have a favorite because they all report different results so the more the merrier???
One thing I find useful is Autoruns from Sysinternals. It shows you what programs are configured to run during system bootup or login, and shows you the entries in the order Windows processes them. It goes way beyond the MSConfig utility bundled with Windows Me and XP. If you find a questionable process running, right click it and do a Seach Online to learn about it before deleting it!

The beauty is that you can delete it right out of your startup configuration right from the displayed list! I had no obvious symptoms but found and removed several Trojan downloaders for a new variant of the Vundo Virus! Yipee.
Sysinternals are awesome. I use them all the time. Check it out!

Nice find FuZZBall. Let me warn people that if you don't know what you are doing with this program and you do something wrong, you can will likely totally screw up your PC.
Just be careful!
