April Fools Prank or Joke (does not have to be on April 1st)

I just read this story http://www.kctv5.com/sports/23033449/detail.html and thought that was a funny. I am sure that player won't be living that down for quite some time. I thought that was great.

What good pranks or jokes have you been part of or heard?

I remember one that a radio DJ played, this was in the 80's. He advised his listening audience that the local phone company will be cleaning the lines and that they residents will need to wrap the handset in plastic so when the phone company blows the lines, the dirt will not blow out the handset and get over everything near the phone. There were quite a few people who believed it.

I remember at a job I had over a decade ago, there was a good joke to play on new people. I worked as a correction officer at a state prison. When the senior officer saw that we had a new officer, he/she would have the new officer "obtain air samples" by the cell doors to test for contraband (I do not know what contraband besides marijuana and tobacco). So the Senior officer would give the new officer a large trash bag and have the new person go with an open bag to capture the air near the cell doors. They would do this on the top tier and lower tier. They would then tie up the bags and label the bags with the date, time, and location of the sample. The inmates knew what was going on and they just laughed along with the rest of us. I felt bad for the new officer sometimes. I did not fall for it when I was new and if I played that joke on a new officer, I waited until they got the trash bag and was about to go to the tier then I would call them back and advised them of the joke. I did it to see what they would do.

In the Navy, we'd send new guys to get batteries for the sound powered phones. Sound powered phones are exactly that. They are powered by your voice and not batteries.

We'd send people for relative bearing grease.

We'd send people to get a bucket of steam from the main space.

Ask me some time about the sea bats and the mail buoy watch! LOL. Good times!

I remember a sales person at an Auto Parts Store advise me that a young lady came one time to get "headlight fluid". It was stated that her mechanic stated that her headlight needed fluid.

Herm, I know it is not a "prank" to say but a rite of passage, what about the "shell backing" events and the other mile stones such as when you cross the equator and such.

Hahaha! Yeah, that stuff happens and I have crossed the equator but not while I was in the Navy so I never earned my shellback.
