Pirate/Ocean Trading Game

Alright for some of those who might remember when computers were new and only had DOS..... There was one game where you were in charge of a ship and traded goods with others and fought off pirates. I wish I knew the name of that game. I wonder if there is a simple game like this around?

I like those trading/strategy games. I like the lemonade stand and games like that. I have simcity and all, but it gets boring after your city is done where you no longer need to do things to it. Money is coming in, replacing the roads and subways, power plants and all others.

I remember for "computer class" in high school when computers were new, our assignment was to make a program. I made a mad lib program. Remember Mad libs? So during my program it would ask you for nouns, verbs, noun, and proper nouns. It then would automatically place them in a set story. I thought it was good.... Too bad I did not copy write it.... Anyway........the pirate game... I thought it was called Shanghai.

Anyway. Computers have came a long way. Remember when a floppy disk was a 5 1/4 diskette, and it was truly floppy. Remember when a large room was what was needed for a computer with tape reels? I remember playing a computer game that was on an audio tape, it was called code breaker.. That was high tech back then. Now we have flash/thumb drives that would be equal or greater to the large room with the old systems. Crazy.... Man I am old I know there are some who are older than I here, but my dad worked for Motorola, Intel and other chip manufacturers and he tried to get the new stuff when it came out. Heck I remember when the microwave for food was new and my dad cooked eggs in it Did not taste too well.

I got my first computer before Apple came out.
It had 4k ram which only 1.8k was usable as the OS took up the rest.
The "flopppy" disk was a Cassette Rcorder!

And Yes, we did program simple Graphic games on it and it used 4 joy sticks, had 128 colors - Fun!
Music too - and very good music at that.
It had a "Moog" chip in it for music.
I programmed it using a B.A.S.I.C. cartridge.

If you played on an Amiga back in the day, a similar program to what you describe was called "Ports of Call".

Remember how Texas Instruments suddenly decided to pull the plug on their computer, creating an instant orphan, and how the computer magazines were all enraged that they hired Bill Cosby to push sales of their orphan so that they could unload all those unsold units onto the unwary?

My favourite strategy game was called Empire. It was turn based, and up to 3 could play. It would take hours to play through to a single winner. My friend had the same game on his Atari ST. We tried to find an Amiga to Atari and back again emulator so we could play saved games on either machine to no avail.

I have a really old computer too sitting down in my grandmother's basement (her house is like 100 yards away so I can go get it) that used the original actual floppy floppy discs! That thing has some really old fun games. It's an "Apple" something and you can even smell how musty and gross it is when it's running. This thing is our oldest model, my dad used it when he was a kid and right now he's 42!!!
Haha! My old man is getting old! I love him very much!
