I find this amazing

Post by BiGbOsS » Sun Feb 06, 2011 1:15 am

I was on a bunny tracks server the other day with some of my friends as usual when something i thought amazing happened that i would like to share.
A random player that i had never met before came on, he didnt do much, jumped around a little, didnt say anything until he came to a spot in the map where you had to dodge to get past it. He saw me do it and asked, how did you do such a long jump? I told him it was called a dodge, told him how to activate it in options, and then to double tap in any direction to do it. He said," Thanks! Sorry this is my first time ever playing this game." We then continued on a conversation, his friend had bought the game and burned him a copy (or somehow got it to him), and now they are both hooked into it. They are getting there other friends into it too. Neither him nor his friend had EVER played this game in their past. His friend just bought it on a whim!

I had no idea people still bought this game without ever playing it before. Most players that come on are either current players, or explayers who just miss the game. I thought it was amazing that somebody somehow got the idea to buy an eleven year old game that they had never played before and decide to hop around on servers. This is amazing to me! It just goes to show that even after eleven years ut99 is still recruiting new players. Just a story i thought id share with you all.

Yes I love to hear this stuff!

I too have met quite a few who recently bought this game.
Usually 1 to 5 dollars.
A lot of other countries around the world are still selling this game too.
That is why there are so many Europeans and So. Americans playing it.
Yep, the new players are still coming in.

If we could get the word out that all you have to do to play the game is download the demo, and then apply the last patch to it and you have the complete, if bare bones game, think of how many would play!
I'm a man........but I can change........if I have to........I guess

Yes, I have done that a little bit, here and there, but indirectly so far.

Yeah this is pretty cool to hear. From time to time I still think how and where the retail game is bought. Many of my players are from Argentina, Venezuela, Croatia and a few places in Russia. Amazing.

i've notice the increase from Europe as well! I just recently learned that Steam now sells ut99 in a pack with ut2k4 and one other i cant remember. Apparently its dirt cheap like all three for 5 or 10 dollars. I mean i only started playing this online in 06, BUT we had bought the game when it came out in 99, i just wasnt aloud to play on the internet back then (too young in my parents eyes). But i still had heard of the game when i had decided to download it five or so years ago. I'm just still shocked by this event!

On a side note i have NEVER gotten the demo/update to work for me. Although ive only tried a few times it would never work out, but thats probably just me lol

EDIT
i've come back to add this at the end of my post after just browsing through the offtopic section:
While its amazing that these new players are joining, its depressing to see these people and all of their goodbye threads. I guess its a bittersweet feeling eh? I wonder if the newbies will contribute as much as some of these members who are leaving have!

I don't think many of the noobs will but I do suspect that over time we will continue to get some really high quality members such as Helen and Sir Mandrake for instance. Each one of them is worth 10-15 noobs at least. I'd much rather read full and properly written and punctuated posts with depth and meaning than to open a topic to find somebody replied with nothing more than "meh" or "cool'.
