Your right. My bad. PBS does not own them but since they do make so much money shouldn't they pay their own way? More later. It is late. I just finished looking for those maps you mentioned.

Does PBS make money? I guess some of the stations do, because they produce shows that the others pay for to broadcast. And they also sell that programming around the world. The PBS station in Boston comes to mind. I know that they are powerful in that regard, so yes I guess that they are rich. But other stations never developed the capacity to do that sort of thing. Most likely because they're located in poorer areas than Boston. And since each station is a separate entity, it can't be said that the network is "rich". Just a handful of the stations are. And if they were forced to share their wealth with the other stations they cooperate with, they'd have nothing left over to produce more programming. Perhaps the support should be doled out on a case by case basis. Most likely it already is.
