Extreme lag issue

Here is one report on AV programs. Thiis a PDF link for the Summary Report for 2010. I would have posted the PDF itself but it was just over the 4 mb limit. On page 9 of this file it gives a "summary" of awards.

Hey thanks for posting that document David. Naturally I had a look at how well Avast! did. While I was reading the report I discovered that one of the language choices for Avast! is "Pirate Talk". So naturally I added that one. The program updated itself quickly, and now I know that me ship be secure. Arrrr, thanks be to you, matey!

All the scans including a virus scan found nothing so i guess this is my last option:

Hello! dont think ive met you before, but what would you suggest i do about an ooverheating video card?

And yes shadow knight if you go onto their home page you can download a free version. The trial version is for the upgraded paid versions that you can purchase.

Concerning an overheating video card: You can replace/add additional case fans to help vent out the heat. You can move your video card to another PCI slot if it is a PCI video card (creating more space for it to "breath"). Replace your video card, one with a cooling system (fan, vent pipes, other).

What David said. Better fans, better airflow.

Experimentally, if you have a regular house fan, take the side off your computer and point the fan at it and try it like that for a bit. If you still get the chop, then you saved yourself buying fans and moving the card. If it works, then you know you have something to go on.

Another thought, immediately after experiencing the chop, you could check your system for error events. On XP I right-click on My Computer on the desktop, select Manage, then expand System Tools | Event Viewer | System. You could look for any suspicious Error events. I don't know that anything would get logged in there in regards to this but you never know.

Clean the fan on the video card if there is one. Clean the inside of the computer too. Make sure the heat sink on the processor is clean and that the fan is clean too. Didn't I already say all of this?

yes you did herm, and in regard to cleaning the computer i already did it. Ive done the house fan trick before, but was for a way older computer. Will have to see if its that on this one.

points to ponder about over heating

1.. have you added any thing new witch would generate more heat ?

2...where does the computer sit inside a cabinet or on the desk the closer to the floor the better colder air to keep it cooler...how close to the wall does it sit is it far enough back so the hot air from the psu dissapates or is it getting pulled back into the computer

3.how many fans do you have and where air flow is a real killer when it comes to heat if tha only fan you have in the back is the psu then you might be pulling all that hot air genrated by the componets across your cpu ram and vid card

4..when installing new fans ? where to put them always try to have as much fresh air going in as you do going out check your cables for the hardrives and cd-rom how are the sitting the can acualy stop the air from flowing front to back making it hot inside the case

5.. can you mod your case some cpu's have shroudes to take the heat out mine didnt so i measured where my cpu was in the case pulled the side case off put a hole in it the size of a case fan and mounted it to the side so it pulled air off my cpu and vid card...check witch way the cpu fan is blowing some blow down across the gills some pull the air away from them that way the fans wont fight each other

Okay so maybe someone could explain this:
Again i forgot about this thread and im doing a major bump to tell you all that it magically stopped doing it! I put together a new computer desk about a month ago, and about three weeks ago i moved the tower up on top of the desk from its previous position under the desk. This was only because this new desk has less room under the desk, and i needed the leg room. Since ive moved it up there i have not experienced the lag issue once! Was it overheating down there? Can anyone explain this?

Hmmm.... Ok yeah if it was an enclosed part of the desk it was sitting in, then Heat could of been the issue. Ive seen computers act up in those enclosures, some dont have any problems. Also, wireless signals dont work well if the system is low on the floor and inside an enclosure like that so.

Yep! Heat is a bad thing. Sir Mandrake nailed it again. Why do I even respond with him around here? Ever been in one part of a room and feel it it hotter than another part? Well, if your PC is down under a desk and it is not open down there for air flow like as if it is up against a wall then it will get much warmer down there. Inside the case of the PC it gets hotter exponentially. 1 degree hotter beneath desk can equal 2 hotter in the case. 1 more degree hotter below the desk and inside the case it may get 3 - 4 degrees hotter. 1 more degree hotter below the desk and the inside the case it might get 5-6 degrees hotter so you can imagine if the room is already warm and then you turn on the PC.

I'm just glad to hear it stopped. Peace!
