I have a co-worker who, I guess, is a fan of Patrick Swayze. He thinks that the movie "Roadhouse", which came out in 1989 was the great manly movie.......I'm sorry I disagree.
Yes it does have fighting scenes, but ....... it is a "chick flick" with fighting. Women are drawn to the movie due to Patrick Swayze and his looks. What are your thoughts? I wish I could get more people to vote so I can see what people true thoughts are.
To me, a guy movie is Clint Eastwood's westerns or Dirt Harry movies.
Is Roadhouse a guy movie, a chick flick or a hybrid? I will say it could be a hybrid.

Don't know (or can't recall) the movie, but if that's kinda like Ghost, then is girly stuff for sure. Every movie with Patrick Swayze is chick flick IMO.

Re: The Movie "Roadhouse"
The true bellweather of a chick flick is not in how the man "lead" is portrayed. It has MUCH more to do with how the female "lead" is portrayed. Is her story completely fleshed out? Is she treated as an equal story-wise or is she there more as a filler to add decorations to the stage the male lead occupies?
Think Lifetime Movie Network here. This bastion of all things Chick runs movies constantly. Find me one that has a strong male lead without an equally strong female. Just won't happen.
Now that being said, Roadhouse qualifies as a Guy Movie. The female lead hardly has any dialogue, little backstory, and mainly just adds pretty to the scene. It's a fairly effeminate Guy Movie, but I can't see it being Chick at all.

Gopostal, thank you for your thoughts and once I looked up some words you used, I agree with the effeminate comment. That is why I placed a hybrid selection. Wow.....now if I can figure out how to use that word during work..gopostal wrote:It's a fairly effeminate Guy Movie, but I can't see it being Chick at all.

As for it being a "chick or guy" movie I really think it's in the eye of the beholder.
Yes, overall Patrick Swayze was the main character but for some women maybe
they could relate more to the female actor Kelly Lynch.
Personally I don't consider Patrick Swayze a leading man or a "man's man" so for me
it was more of a chick movie/hybrid.
Either way it sucked as a movie.

Re: The Movie "Roadhouse"
I enjoyed Roadhouse. I have watched it a million times but not bu choice. It was what was one the movie channel in the military at the time. Hybrid is my answer. It had parts to make the female crowd like it and it had plenty of fight scenes to keep the men happy.
On a 1-10 I'd give the movie 7 myself. It was that good.
