The guy admits to crashing servers now and people couldn't understand why I stopped associating with him. This is exactly why I removed him from UTSurvival.

I just finished reading more of this. Hmmm. The whole thing is sad. I never knew him but I know he did contribute tons to UT and it is sad to see him slipping in his current direction. I'm also shocked to see so many people jump on his case so fast and so openly. He must have really turned sharply to the darkside recently. I had never heard a single bad thing about him till late last year I think.

Let's jump to a happy-note while highjacking this topic at the same time shall we! I also just finished a rare visit to some other forums I used to go to all of the time to find GOPO has been busy assisting the charge against servers that show false bots thus inflating their gametracker stats. I too share the anger towars the admins who do this. I will admit I thought to do it myself many years back when I first saw it was possible but I never did it. I only have one fake player ever and that is good old Mr. Titan. Remember him? He rules and you suck is all he says as he tries to kill you. He was the first real bot that I ever thought was a real player. Awesome map he is on too. Starts with the letter A if I recall. DM map. Again, I'm thrilled to see these fake bot counts showing as real players servers being cast out by the Gametracker people. Nice work again GOPO. You keep beating me to these things.

Yeah, I have felt like reporting a few I found also - wish I had.
Seems like a lot of trouble to go through just to boost the GameTracker rating.
Then they really suffer when they are disabled! LOL

Like you Hermskii, I too was intrigued as to how it is done, and I did look into it but didn't want to do it.
I hate fake stuff!

Also, just an FYI - These I have had my eye on are still being listed and also still Ranked at GameTracker.com!
But the Fake Players are Listed as "Bots" at GameTracker.com
They also show the players like this - 1(7)12
Meaning...
Current Players: 1 / Current Bots: 7 / Total Slots: 12


These 2 Servers Display FAKE PLAYERS in them, but ONLY when there is at least 1 REAL Player in them!
Not all the time.
These 2 servers Share a couple of Mutator/Mods - FYI -
MUTATORS: Longshot bonus v2b w/ changeable sounds and menu, Hyperspeed Translocator, Low Gravity, Ownage
AND...
MUTATORS: StuffSwapper, Low Gravity, Ownage, Longshot bonus v2b w/ changeable sounds and menu, TeleBonus: Award bonus points for telefrags!, Enhanced game feedback, Map-Vote LA13
...but the only one that I know of that has to do with any player names is the "Ownage" mod.
Could this be what is causing the Fake Players on these servers?

Report them. There are mods that attempt to hide the bot status so if you watch GT you'll see them flip back and forth from player to bot. Servers doing this should be completely blacklisted.
