Got an upgrade for 4 more € per month. Considering they changed some other stuff in my deal, I should pay more or less the same as before.

The problem is, I was expecting 1 Mbit upload speed, but after discussing with the customer care dude, I was being told that you'll never get the full 1 Mbit (max supported by the ADSL2+ technology), unless you have the telephone station right under your butt. :|

Is this worth it, or should I consider reverting back to my old plan (7 Mbit down, 0.4 Mbit up), saving a couple of bucks per month? The download speed is close to what promised, though (10 Mbit), and I noticed an improvement as regards the latency as well.

Well, unless they start spreading fiber optics (promising up to 100 Mbit downstream and 10 Mbit upstream speeds), this is close to the best you can get on old copper lines.

It's nice and sad at the same time to see I'm already faster than 80% of the other folks in Italy.

Yeah, go ahead and keep it. I ran several test just now and all seemed slow. This was the best I got tonight just now:

Speed Test #99809398 by dslreports.com
Run: 2011-12-01 21:08:11 EST
Download: 6908 (Kbps)
Upload: 2750 (Kbps)
In kilobytes per second: 843.2 down 335.7 up
Tested by server: 54 java
User: 2 @ dslreports.com
User's DNS: comcast.net
Compared to the average of 708 tests from comcast.net:
* download is 28% worse, upload is 15% worse

I had to post the text result because I don't know how to post the picture. Here is what they gave me for the pretty picture if someone else can tell me what I need to do:

<a href="http://speedtest.dslreports.com"><img border=0 src="http://www.dslreports.com/im/99809398/21618.png"></a>

I pay $40.00 a month for this. I have to admit, usually it is more like 9,000 down and 2,800 up.

Fixed, you just used the HTML code instead of the PHP one for forums:

OK I think I'm gonna stick with this new deal. Thanks for sharing your opinion.

With my current plan, but that will most likely change due. I will probably go back to my normal 5 mb/s plan because it has no bandwidth cap. This 50 mb/s plan has a 50gb cap.
Image

I use speedtest.net and and others and they have similar results. When I use the site recommend by Herm (dslreports.com), it is drastically different. It would report about 27 mb/s were the others would show an average of +50 mb/s. And half the time, dslreports did not work or load properly and it states that the server is busy. I would display a report from them, but the site is S...........L..............O...............W loading.

Go for a flat plan David, traffic caps are never a good thing, specially if you do a lot of video streaming. That 0 ping looks cheated though. :P

About me, I reverted back to my old plan, cause I was barely getting a little more than half of the upstream bandwidth they promised me, and those 3 more Mbits down wouldn't make a big difference to me, since I'm the only one using Internet access at home, so I don't have to share my connection.
ADSL is an obsolete technology, and fibre optic is only available in a few big city in here, so not where I live.

I had to choose a different server, since the I used before (server on Phoenix) and again a short time ago had another 0 ping. So I choose one in San Diego
