I do not get it.......

Post by David » Wed May 25, 2011 7:30 pm

OK, how about an I do not get it thread. If you come a across a story that you did not understand why, then post it here.

Such as this.... He, she or it? Family keeps baby's gender a secret http://moms.today.com/_news/2011/05/25/ ... ?GT1=43001

I disagree with this. Call me old fashion, but .... :? Each to their own I guess.

It does seem weird, and one wonders what the child in question will be like as a teenager and young adult. Probably just fine I would guess. Kids are adaptable.

When I think about some of the places in the world where tens of thousands of female fetuses are aborted every year because the family wants a boy child, then what this couple are doing seems very benign indeed.

We have a large tent. We use it once a year for my wife's family reunion over Memorial Day weekend. It is big big tent. Anyways, after brushing off cobwebs from my memory, we remembered how to put it together. What the kicker is, the instructions are sewn directly into the tent.....the INTERIOR of the tent. So if you want the instructions, you need to have it raised to get into the tent to read them.... I do not get it.

Ahahaha! Democrats designed that tent I assure you! You can likely ask the government for help putting it up and get paid as others do it for you. LOL

I do not get it that people fall for some of the plain and clear fraud/schemes out there. Such as this one I got in an email.

Late Mr. Rolf Hoffmann bequeathed 12,030,000.00 USD, to you in his will. More info, contact your attorney(Dean Harry Esq.) via email address; lawfirm112@ or barr.dhesq4@ || Tel: +44-702-405-3855Late Mr. Rolf Hoffmann bequeathed 12,030,000.00 USD, to you in his will. Common sense says it is fake, not real, fraud, not good...etc, but people do fall for it. I know times are tough but to let yourself get involved in this junk is not wise. I see victims on other scams that they get a phone call and a person stated that they won this international lottery (that they did not play) and that they will get some huge amount as long as they wire transfer money to the "middleman" and then the money could be FedEx to them.

I know the US is targeted in these scams, but are other countries hit as hard as the US?

P.S. Please do not email or contact the above fool who sent this email.

Hey David could you deactivate those links please? Just going to the website could put all kinds of scumware onto an unwary reader's PC. Thanks.

The latest thing is the "Grandma Scam" where thieves are trolling for the elderly by reading obituaries, amoung other methods. Then they 'phone the grandparent at some point down the road and claim to be "your grandson". When the grandparent says "is that you Johnny?" they say yes it is, and then hit the concerned grandparent up for a few hundred or a couple of thousand "to make bail" or whatever. Unfortunately a lot of these gangs are operating up here in Canada, and targeting all of North America. Often they will hit up the same person for the same or a slightly different amount a day or two later, and sometimes several times, before the person realizes they've been duped. They're raking in millions. One of the wire transfer companies in the US got fined big time for going along with the scammers.

I don't know if you know it Nameless but you are my DAD! I love and miss you very much but since you weren't here to guide me in my life, I'm in some deep trouple. Please select the paypal link on any other website since this one does not and will not ever have one and contribute to my legal fund.

I only need $24,000 to finally clear myself of these false charges brought on by that bank camera that shows me slipping the wrong note I had written to a teller. I swear, just check and see, you'll see I had another note in my pocket requesting a withdrawl and that gun was my friends. I just quit smoking and you know how people have to have stuff in their hands when they quit. I didn't even know I had it in my hand. Please just hurry and send the money so Ican beat this wrap and move up there with you so we can finally be father and son!

That's the ideal way to deactivate a link, for sure. :) That way the address can't be typed in manually by anyone whose curiosity gets the better of them. ;)

Ahhh my dear long lost son: Now you know why I have been hanging around your servers and forums ever since I found you. I have been helping you as best I can, trying to guide you to the best maps, and keep you on the straight and narrow by cussing on the servers when you aren't around to see if you check the logs and catch it. And catch it you did. It's good to know that you take after your mother's side in something.

Obviously the trouble you are in means that you have bred true to your father's side of the family, just as I bred true to my father's, and he to his, and so on, and on ad infinitum. My best advice to you is the same as my own father's was, just plead guilty and try to look remorseful. Also get a goddamn haircut, and try to find as unintelligent an evangelical minister as possible, and then let him "save" you. This might get your sentence reduced a bit. Once inside keep your nose clean, and you might get as much as 7 years knocked off for good behavior. Too bad you live in Texas, because this means you're going away for a long, long time. But don't worry, by the time you get out I'll surely be dead, and you can have my Harley. Of course it will be all used up by then, so be sure to take a motorcycle mechanics course while you're inside.

Love and kisses,

Dad

Mind boggling!!

Post by a nameless entity » Tue Jun 07, 2011 9:37 pm

Here's a story that is so beyond comprehension that I am going to cut and paste the text into here after the link, so that when the CBC's link eventually dies, the story is still told. The stupidity and dishonesty in this story is absolutely mind boggling!!

Wronged homeowners repossess bank
U.S. couple shows up with moving truck, court order to seize bank assets

Months after Bank of America wrongly foreclosed on a house Warren and Maureen Nyerges had already paid for, they were still fighting to get reimbursed for the court battle.

So on Friday, their attorney showed up at a branch office in Naples with a moving truck and sheriff's deputies who had a judge's permission to seize the furniture if necessary. An hour later, the bank had written a check for $5,772.88.

"The branch manager was visibly shaken," attorney Todd Allen said Monday, recalling the visit to the bank last week. "At that point I was willing to take the desk and the chair he was sitting in."

After the moving company and sheriff's deputies get their share, the Nyerges should receive the rest of the money this week, ending a bizarre saga that started when they paid Bank of America $165,000 cash for a 2,700-square-foot foreclosed home in Naples in 2009.

About four months later, a process server knocked on their door and handed Warren Nyerges a notice of foreclosure.

"This is a big mistake," he recalled saying. "You must have the wrong house. We bought a foreclosure and don't have a mortgage."

That started 18 months of frustrating phone calls, paperwork and court hearings. Whenever Nyerges called the bank, representatives told him to "come up to date" with his payments. When he called 25 different law firms, no attorney would take the case. When he went to court, the lawyers for the bank filed incorrect motions and were woefully unprepared for the hearings.

"It was mind boggling," said Nyerges, a 46-year-old retired police officer. "To try to unscrew the screw up, it's not as easy as it sounds."

Eventually the Nyerges found Allen. They fought the foreclosure and won, proving that they owned the home outright.

During his research, Nyerges heard that his name got transposed from purchase agreements onto the prior foreclosure.

"I don't know if that is a fact, because no one really had the facts," he said.

In September 2010, a judge ordered Bank of America to pay the couple's $2,534 attorney fees. But by last week, the bank hadn't paid up, so Allen got a judge's permission to seize assets.

In an email to the Associated Press on Monday, Bank of America spokeswoman Jumana Bauwens apologized to the couple about the "delay in receiving the funds."

"The original request went to an outside attorney who is no longer in business," she wrote.

The law office of David J. Stern, which handled the Nyerges' case for Bank of America, told judges across Florida in March that it will end its involvement in 100,000 foreclosure cases.

The Florida attorney general's economic crimes division is investigating three law firms, including Stern's, over allegations that they created fraudulent legal documents, gouged homeowners with inflated fees, steered business to companies they owned and filed foreclosures without proving the bank actually had legal interest in the loans.

According to employee testimony filed with Florida authorities, Stern's employees churned out bogus mortgage assignments, faked signatures, falsified notarizations and foreclosed on people without verifying their identities, the amounts they owed or who owned their loans.

The attorney general is also looking at whether Stern paid kickbacks to big banks.

This isn't the first time that Bank of America has tried to foreclose on a property that was owned by a person without a mortgage. In 2009, a Fort Lauderdale man named Jason Grodensky bought a home in cash from Bank of America in a short sale. But in court, the foreclosure case continued and a judge ordered the property to be sold. Bank of America acknowledged the error and rescinded the foreclosure.

Allen sees the Nyerges case as symbolic of the foreclosure crisis. Courts are backlogged, and banks and their attorneys aren't scrutinizing foreclosure paperwork.

And Nyerges said he's still upset with Bank of America.

"They couldn't even spell our name right in the apology," he said.

Indeed it is sad. But I am hopeful that these things that are going on just now are the last symptoms of a malaise that has run its course. They say that people are flocking back to the churches, and that the evangelical sects are the ones that are growing the fastest. That is certainly true around here. All of the biggest new churches being built all over southern Ontario are evangelicals. That the fundamentalists are winning the biggest share clearly indicates to me that people are fed up with the status quo and looking for something better. Given time, and a minimum of government bungling during the mean time, and things should start to improve again. It took a long time to dig the hole that the whole world economy is in, and it will take time to climb out again. There is hope for the future. I'm sure of it.
