I never felt a thing, but

Post by a nameless entity » Tue Aug 23, 2011 8:10 pm

Well I never felt a thing at the time, but others here in Ontario did, even way up in Sudbury Ontario, which is a day's drive North of me.

I hope that Jargonaut, Blond Hottie & family, and especially Scify are all ok, and didn't suffer any property damage. 5.8 = ouch! we had a 3.5 quake here some years ago, and that was scary enough. It cracked the plaster in our walls in a few places. :o

Yes, glad you are doing good Scify.
Now, just watch out for Hurricane "IRENE" - she's getting nasty and is supposed to head up the East Coast.

Ah good to hear you are alright Scify. :)

Yes that Hurricane will be a problem later in the week. Everything is nice here at the moment, but they are warning of severe thunderstorms tonight and over night. We are also under a tornado watch here, which is a bit on the unusual side for my town. I have 3 beautiful trees on my property. I hope they all come through this ok along with my house, of course. :o

Believe it or not once year earthquake happen here. In fact one happen last year no more 10 mile were I live :which I was sleeping. This one hit so many states only reason made National news. Unlike California no earthquake code here if we have big earthquake all building in state maybe gone .We lucky two nuclear reactors wasn't damage and others in different States.
As Irene it can't as bad as Hurricane Camille in 1969.

This year we had Tornado, earthquake and Hurricane.

Well the whole Province dodged the tornado bullet apparently, although some waterspouts were spotted. The town of Goderich Ontario got creamed by a twister earlier in the week, so they didn't need more grief of that sort.
I've heard reports of power lines down, trees snapped in two, and a train in the next town SW of me was blown off the tracks. But nothing like that here. Just a lot of heavy rain. TyG! 8)

Will you get any rain over-spillage from the hurricane that will be going up the East coast next week?

There are several unconfirmed tornado reports in the news today. One is next door in Burlington Ontario, where that train was blown off the tracks. Burlington is only 18km/11 miles from me. No high winds here. Not even a twig down anywhere on my lawns. *whew!* :D

Good for you Nameless. We did get some sprinkling here the last few days. Imagine this to give you an idea...

I watched it rain for over 15 minutes the other day and the street never got wet. It is that dry here right now.

Wow, now my daughter, her husband and their daughter, (my newest grandchild) are on Long Beach Island New Jersey, by Cape May, right on the beach, right in the path of Hurricane IRENE.
They have a mandatory evacuation ordered by the NJ Governor, but the gas stations are all out of fuel now.
They cannot leave because the traffic is so bad.
The luckily have about a half tank full in their rental car.
They are going to try to leave in the morning.
Hopefully the traffic will get better by then so they can get their butts out of there. :|
I am praying!

Scify, are you going to be OK where you are? :?

I hope they get out OK. Everyone recalls this in Houston several yeasr back. The traffic never went away. It was awful. I ended up having to stay and the thing ended up missing us too.

There are many new things in place now to make sure it doesn't happen again like they'll make both inbound and outbout highways all be outbound next time. Cool huh?
