My answer to that is the following, and applies to them both equally.

Well this is a thread about Canadian Rock, after all! :P

And of course their other huge hit:

I heard this one by The Pursuit of Happiness on the radio today, so I'll toss it into the mix too:

I'm a man........but I can change........if I have to........I guess

Here is something quite lovely from Joni Mitchell.

Isn't this portrait quite lovely too?
Those high cheekbones are a photographer's dream, don't you think?

This tune is on Joni's album called "Hits". I was aware of it for years before I finally bought a copy. Then I found this song on it, and knew I had found my forever favourite Joni Mitchell song. :)

This is a thread about Canadian Rock. So this song absolutely does not belong here!!!

But so what. It's my thread, and I want it in here!

Perhaps the best tune from the Payolas:

Martha and the Muffins went through a lot of band member changes over the years. I vaguely recall hearing that after they failed to follow up this hit, which got them a spot on Saturday Night Live, there were a lot of recriminations going on. But they survived, and I now think the original members, or most of them, have gotten back together. The lady in this video does not look like the one I remember seeing on SNL, but hey, it was a long time ago!

And just to continue the eclectic theme, here's something by the Downchild Blues Band.
How could you not love this one?

One of many hits by Colin James:

Apparently those in the know used to have a good giggle over this one. But it was 1981, and few people knew that Carole Pope was gay back then. (I didn't.)

Anyone outside of Canada ever hear of these guys? This is their only top 100 hit according to someone's post in YouTube land:
I'm a man........but I can change........if I have to........I guess

The audio on the dub-in is terrible, but here is the uncut version of this Crowbar classic:

Since they used to own Sportsters, and often rode them through the front door and into their house they called "Bad Manors"; I think the motorcycle at the beginning of the video should have been a photo of an old iron head sporty. ;)

Since that video of the Headpins disappeared again, I will add this tune to the mix. It was the most popular one on the radio back in the day, and probably still is. Although I would say that some other tunes have much better insturmental tracks in them to back up Darby Mills' singing.

I think that this next one is the one "that got away": ;)

This one ain't Canadian neither.
A 1977 video of the Runaways, without lead singer Cherie Currie. Vickie Blue has replaced Jackie Foxx on bass.

I had never heard of the Runaways back when they were together. Their music did not make it onto the radio on the Toronto or Buffalo rock stations that I used to listen to in '77. And I had a lot of time to listen that summer, for I was laid off from work until September due to the mini recession that year. :?

This video is fun to watch, for the girls ham it up a lot for the camera.

They've been playing this tune on Q107 in Toronto a lot lately. A search at youtube turned up this video that claims to be the "official" video, along with a bunch of others. These two are the most interesting visually and have good audio as well.

I once saw some of Yoko's art work on display at a gallery in Toronto. The only piece that I remember was a glass bottle that strongly resembled a milk bottle. It was on a low pedestal with a sign that explained that the bottle was not to be appreciated until it was broken. -There was a red fire axe mounted on a nearby wall, and a part of me was tempted to enable appreciation of the work of art. I have fantasized about doing just that many times in the years since. Perhaps I should put that action on my "bucket list", just in case that work of "art" ever returns to a gallery nearby. :|

This video can be appreciated without being broken, and is quite nice:

p.s. If anyone is actually reading these comments I make along with the video postings, please let me know. ;)

I'm on season 5 of "how i met your mother" and I wonder if you watched it and what you think of the way Robin and the show in general portray Canadians. I'm on season 5 so don't go spoiling it for me.

Actually I've only ever seen a few minutes of the start of that show whenever it follows something else I was watching.
I didn't like what I was seeing so I would change the channel.
I wasn't even aware that Canadians were being portrayed in that show. Since the show seems to revolve around bawdy humour, I assume that Canadians are not shown in a good light?

The girl called Robin is the Canadian and they give her hell because she thinks the Americans she lives with know all of the Canada facts she knows. I'd say Canadians are shown to as adults be bad-a**es in that they are willing to fight to prove their love of their hockey team etc.

Sounds subversive to me! Canadians are well aware that Americans are only vaguely aware that we exist. And frankly, we like it that way. ;)

As to the hockey thing, this Robin character must be from Montreal. They're the only Canadian team that has a shot at the cup every year. :?

And speaking of subversive, give this a listen. You owe it to Hillary. ;) :P
