General Protection Fault

There was a thread about errors/"General Protection Fault" error messages that were posted by multiple players, including myself; but I cannot find the post.

So..... start a new one.
I got this one today, before I even got to play. The map was about to start and then the fault/error took place.

I know sometimes I will get an error before the game starts if I rise towards the top of the map during the time you can move around the map freely before the game/players load. My UT does not like that. I will get an error on that behavior.

This obviously happened because you weren't on one of my servers at the time. Karma? LOL. Where did this happen? What map?

I could not tell you what map. I just went to a sniper server and (ZSZ) campers sniper server (unreal://66.55.149.104:7777)

I saw one player on and needed to get in a quick game, so.... it was quicker than I thought since the error crashed UT for me.

I remember having crashes similar on Hooks, Fuzz_Ball's, and your severs. I will try to keep track and share. But I do know, if I get too high on a map, that will give me an error and kick me out and what I remember of the error has to do with a "loop".

Something there seems to screw pathing serialization, probably something changes paths deal and happens only in server - client stay untouched and then, evil things occur...
else I can create a nice error as follows:
- find a high ping server using NewNet + ACE;
- join, during ACE checks keep moving around.
There are 80% chances to have a crashed client. I'm not bother to report these somewhere as long as admin can see them himself/herself. If he/she doesn't address these issues I'm not really disturbed. It can be in a work process (or not)...

I would fix it but:

1. I don't know how.
2. I don't know if the map is the problem.
3. That isn't my map.
4. That map isn't on my server.
5. I don't know who's map it is.

Yeah, those are my excuses and I'm standing by them.

Like I said, being a sniper server (a camper one) I'm guessing (or I might be wrong) that paths were screwed to not have Bot running in map.

Seem like a map is holding something but I can't be sure.

I crashed my UT 99 game twice today by "getting high". I'm not sure how similar this is to David's problem:

In the first instance I came onto Fuzzball's server. It was empty, and Skaarj Castle was running. I went through the fast forward teleporter in the caves, and ended up on the mountain tops.
As I worked my way around, I at one point walked to the edge and looked back down at the play area below. The screen shook in an odd way, the announcers blue lettering was messed up and the 2nd announcement would be written overtop the first, and .... I noticed that I couldn't do anything. I was stuck, and the game was effectively crashed, even though it was still running.

Then later I flew up to the ceiling at the beginning of the map Minas Tirith reimagined, (before someone started the game) and the same thing happened. The only cure both times was to hit esc + Alt and minimize the game so that I could force it to shut down via the task bar.

I'm pretty sure that both times the excessive number of polygons just overwhelmed my system's capabilities.

Ok so something is holding transient object.

Higor have more information about that, awhile I know a little. I remember Higor was telling ~V~ a trick to stop the XConsole from crashing the client (kind of like the one in the screenshot, however, new release are yet to come but I can pass out the one in private) so I hardly crash anymore.

I do not get those crashes as often as I used to, but I get them once and awhile.

In the past I have seen it crash because it locks up when I go too high on a tall map. I have also noticed that I crash sometimes if I barely get into a game on Fuzz_Balls and I toss my weapons... :? Not sure why it would crash if I toss my weapons within a very short time in getting into the game, but ....... it still crashes once and awhile (not all of the time).
