I should perhaps do a separate post with some tips for safer more private browsing.
However, bare in mind that by using Media Player Classic to watch youtube playlists, you;
a) get access to GPU HW decoding
b) are not using the html or scripts, so cannot get adverts or malware.
c) cannot be tracked via cookies or scripts.
d) can save any video currently playing.
Yes please!

I'm sick to death of this run around cropping up every so often. I'd prefer to use a media player that lets me find and play You Tube videos as you describe. Especially if it can import my Firefox bookmarks of the You Tube videos I like.

I went and got the latest flash update. I prefer to have flash set to tell me when updates are available, rather than update automatically. Perhaps I should switch to auto, as Adobe never gets around to asking me about updating.

At the moment my You Tube player is still buggered. Updating flash hasn't helped like it seemed to before. There are certain videos that just will NOT load any more. And the others run poorly as I've described. I am not using any extensions to "tailor" You Tube, other than that HTML 5 v. 3.03 extension.

And I guess I don't have any ad blocker or tracker addons either, for that matter.

I had a look at that You Tube enhancer page, but intead of offering something to install it was just a grey page of options to pick with no instructions on what to do or what happens next with it. I guess I'm just thick. I didn't understand what that page was about at all. So I left it alone.

My mistake, I posted the config page.
https://www.mrfdev.com has 3 different Firefox extensions. You can read about them by using the drop-down menu at the top of the page.
The extensions will be safely installed from the Mozilla site.

https://www.mrfdev.com/youtube-enhancer-plus
https://www.mrfdev.com/youtube-hd-plus
https://www.mrfdev.com/youtube-flash-player

Media Player Classic cannot browse youtube, so is best for your playlists or movies.
When you copy a link from youtube, you will find it auto pastes in the "Open File" box.
I don't tend to use youtube for music, so I have never looked for many options.
This site tries to fetch the videos that match your criteria (but people often name videos badly)
http://musicvideoswiz.com
http://www.last.fm have swapped over to using youtube and spotify to stream the content.
Videos in Last.fm have to be submitted so there is a good chance you see the official versions.

I tend to just stream audio in the background, so http://seesu.me fills that need.

While I finish my guide, you can look through my collection of privacy related addons

I chose to go with the first one, youtube enhancer plus. Thanks for the link to that handy add on. I like the idea of defeating ads.

(Edit: Upon restarting Firefox later on, I found that Mozilla now claims that this addon is unsigned, and unverified by them, and it was automatically disabled. I removed this extension for now, until this is sorted out.)

Now all I need to do is figure out why I cannot play my favourite video by Francoise Hardy any more. -It takes forever while it tries to load, then tells me that an "error" has occured. Yet I can still watch and listen to it perfectly via the embedded version I posted on the youtube fest thread. And I'm still getting tons of audio stutter on videos that used to playback beautifully. So something has clearly broken somewhere. I have no idea if it's at my end somehow, or if it's at youtube's. I suspect the latter. They did afterall, warn me to update my IE, even though I was watching in Firefox. :? :(

I am now more convinced than ever that this is Youtube's doing. I have updated flash, uninstalled the html 5 extension, and tried to listen that way with no luck. So I reinstalled html 5 since it was updated at the beginning of the month, and tried again. Weird stuff is still going on with the player, (it's invisible control buttons today) I tried the following "video" which has no video content other than a photo of Joan Jett. The audio was nasty at first, but settled down to merely worse than it used to be. Still far too many stutters and dropouts though, for a good experience.

Also, I still cannot listen to my favourite video by Francoise Hardy, even though I get to watch an advert beforehand, which at first would make you think that it was finally viewable again. BUT I can still listen to the video through the embedded copy in the other thread. AND the embedded player still shows the old nicer player I used to have, and that the HTML 5 extension got back for me for a little while.

Let's see what happens when I embed this video:
(Quick edit: It runs beautifully, with the same player that all other embedded videos have. I may have to ask Herm if I can start a thread here with my fav videos in it so that I can listen to them without aggravation. )

p.s. Isn't that a totally hot photo of the young Joan Jett? Woof!

*bows* 8)

Chrissy is gone now, and that adds to the pain part. But I always liked this video and it sums up what this Youtube nonsense has been lately. ;)

Youtube Enhancer is certified now.
I just installed it on my fresh XP setup.

I am now back in the same boat with XP and limited HW decoding.
So I am now back to finding what I want on youtube and then watching in Media Player Classic BE.
For HD and GPU decoding it is the only option.
VLC will play Youtube links but does not use HW decoding in XP :(

Don't forget, MPC-BE also handles Youtube playlists, so can be used to play non-stop music.
The Youtube enhancer does give you more control of playlist creation so you could start making them while using the browser first, then you know you have some handy links to drop into MPC-BE as playlists.

Old Opera 12 got an update last month so I still have 1 fast browser on XP for a good while yet 8)
