The bump here, speaking about updates.
I went to get the new year 2018 up-to-date. I wasted entire evening, around 2.5 hours VIA batch updating Xp OS on my rig, and I did only those between April 2014 - December 2017 not all of them, those older being already installed... and I won't mention time for building all requirements and downloading required KB files, eh... sometimes patience is helpful... majority are SecurityUpdates and very few are HotFix types, then some Critical ones...

Re: Important announcement for Windows
Okay.........
Here's an interesting twist that I heard about on TV. There's something going on, or wrong with Intel processors. They can be fixed but the fix slows them down a lot.
I may not have that exactly right. Anyone care to clarify what is happening?
And does this mean I should consider an AMD processor for my new PC I hope to have built by next May?

Re: Important announcement for Windows
Intel procs are all screwed and most AMD's also. Just wait 1/2 a year and everything should be cleared up or twice as bad!

Re: Important announcement for Windows
Heh, so I get to put off buying a new pc for even longer?!? It seems the flaw exploits are called Meltdown and Spectre. PC mag says that AMD processors are immune to "Meltdown" but are vulnerable to one of the two "Spectre" exploits.

Re: Important announcement for Windows
Gibson Research has released a utility called InSpectre
that may prove useful to some of you out there.
The impression I've gotten from a quick search on the progress against the CPU exploits Spectre and Meltdown suggest that waiting a bit longer to buy a PC may be a good idea.
