Mechanical question

Post by David » Mon Sep 28, 2020 6:07 pm

So in my neck of the woods, we have prairie dogs and gophers. There are some out here that swear by using carbon dioxide from gassers (see pictures)

I am curious, they look like pressure washers except they have a flexible pipe coming from the muffler/exhaust area to stick down the holes. Do you guys see any other modification or know of any other modification? If it is a modified pressure washer, do they disconnect the water pump or leave it? Ideas?

I know there are some others that are more professional out there but they are also more $$$$. The ones above are expensive enough as it is, a used engine one is about $330 and a new engine one is $500. So I am trying to get help in saving some money and maybe modifying a pressure washer or small enh=gine for the same concept.

I would buy an old anything that has a muffler and figure out how to attach a tube to it and do that. If you buy a pressure washer, you can easily take off the water pump and should. Funny, I never thought to kill stuff with carbon dioxide but I can't understand why it would not work.

A part of me thinks it is cruel and another part of me understands killing things that annoy me wasp and mesquites and ants or kill things that damage my property. Let us know what you decide and how it worked!

In the new area that I am at, I have about 2.5 acres and so do the neighbors. Some neighbors have horses and livestock and the prairie dogs and gophers make holes in which can be harmful to the horses and livestock. The prairie dogs/gophers also eat the roots and can kill the trees. So neighbors complain to other neighbors about the neighbors who do not take care of the prairie dogs/gophers. They tend to expand their territory. So I need to take care of it, but since I retired last November and have not found a job, the money is as available as in the past. So If I can save some money and build one that works, the better it is for us and our neighbors.

Some $$$ examples of the same concept are the following:
