Tariffs

Post by Hermskii » Thu Apr 03, 2025 1:25 am

The USA used to use tariffs for the majority of our income. Now we use taxes on everything we buy and or own. President Trump has just started this big tariff war with 185 other countries. The idea here being he wants more of a fairtrade deal everyone. Historically, we have had to pay much more to sell our products to other countries to protect their businesses. This has been going on for around 50-years.

Now President Trump has asked the other countries initially, via the board he showed at his press conference today for these other countries to start paying basically a 50% reciprocal tariff meaning if it has been determined we are paying an 80% tariff to sell goods in their country, that they at least pay 50% of that when they sell goods in ours. There are still discussions and situations where that percentage and the products tariff percentages are being worked on. I love this idea because we have been worked over for so long and it got to a point where it is a national security issue.

I also feel like we have been paying child support for a very long time and now we are asking to reduce it and eventually stop paying it now that we have found out the child wasn't ours and or that the child is 50 years old now and really needs to stand on their own.

I heard we subsidize Canada 200 billion each year and Mexico 300 billion each year. I'm not sure but "I think" if we stop doing that, they will eventually go belly-up. Right now, we have the first and only President who is trying to get us to a point where we start paying our debt, have fair trade and get to a point where we have a balanced budget.

Here is the question I guess, isn't it fair for the USA to want to have zero trade tariffs with the rest of the world. I'm saying equal tariffs at zero % all around with everyone we trade with. Why? Why not?

Yet strangely, as is all the buzz over on X, Trump didn't do that to Russia or North Korea.

Strange, right?

Weirder still, he also did that to another place which no humans live at... it's only real population are penguins.

Okay, so I'm breaking my own "rule" about not posting in this department. :?

But as I pointed out in another thread, the USA is NOT subsidizing Canada in any way. You pay fair prices for the goods we sell you. AND as I pointed out before, despite what the orange menace says, overall Canada has a trade deficit with the USA, rather than the other way around.

You had a free trade deal with Canada that Trump negotiated himself, and praised. Once re-elected he treacherously broke his own deal. He has caused lay offs and economic chaos up here too. Canada is ready to come to the table and negotiate a new free trade deal. Perhaps it will happen soon, once Trump is finally ready.

If everything you just said is right, Canada will have no problem with free trade with the USA.

Most MAGA people like me wonder if Canda being a state would be good or not. I mean Canda is mostly progressive liberals like you Nameless. If you became a state and got 2-Senators, and a crap-load of representatives that votes for liberal stuff, the USA would just slowly fade out and be taken over as it would have had Biden stayed in office or if Kamala would have won. We can't have that.

Let's just do 0% to 0% fair trade on everything with Canada. Canada's PM knows what he is doing and what is best for you.

Why would Canada agree to become one single state of the union, with only 2 senators, and however many congressmen? 10 provinces and 3 territories = at least 26 senators.
Not that it would ever happen anyway. (God save the King!!)
And it sounds like you don't want all us "liberals", either. :P

It looks like Trump has no interest in Free Trade after all. Another 50% on top of the tariff on steel? Doesn't he know that at least one of the major steel producers up here is 100% American owned? :?

We're looking for free trade deals elsewhere. The Canadian armed forces contracted to buy 16 fighter jets from the USA. There was an option to buy a lot more. Now it looks like Saab's fighter jets may fill out the rest of the potential order. Saab has already offered to establish parts factories and to source the resources and such here in Canada too. A pretty sweet deal. Canada is ready to move on. The USA needs to wake up fast, or be left behind.
-By everyone that's been alienated by these tariffs.

This is one of those "we have to wait and see what happens moments". If Canda does it alone, I wish them the best.
