Running Ut without compatibility mode

Post by ZippityDooDa » Fri Jul 29, 2011 11:45 pm

OS. Windows 7 64x Ultimate

Can't seem to get OpenGl working (version 27) and can't seem to not run in regular mode ( have to run in WIndows 95) which puts my max resolution at 1024, instead of 1920*1080 which is what I want, if i do this I get super fast ut speed with insane ping and dizziness cause mouse is in beserk mode or really slow ut with crazy 9999 ping, not sure if there is a fix on this, hate to let a 22 inch monitor go to waste at 1024 with UT. Default ini is attached.

I run my UT99 at 800x600. Don't really need it much bigger than that.

I was recently having issues with insane speed/super slow but it seems to have gone away now. I'd like to think I fixed it but I'm not sure.

There actually is a specific way to fix it so it plays in normal mode so you can't see your windows desktop, if I'm understanding you correctly. Your resolution issue may be involve your video driver setup. It may have switched by itself. Do you know what you normally have it setup as?

When I first downloaded UT, it ran fine at 1920*1080, I have a EVGA 9500GT card, but every match would lead to fast speed or really slow speed like you witnessed, so I had to switch to Compatibility mode for windows 95 to get normal playing achieved. I do not run in windowed (with the desktop showing). I do have dual core AMD.

Have you tried something like this yet?

Evil Grins, your issue was your cool and quiet function which can change the speed of your processor on the fly depending on how hard it was being worked. UT doesn't understand that so it speeds up and slows down with the processor.

The fix that worked for you was to go to tour Windows power settings and set the power scheme to be "Always On"

That works for most folks but not always. If any of you have already tried that and it didn't work then try the dual core patch Helen provided.

If that doesn't work for you, let me know.

I play UT on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I did not have to change my power setting since my PC doesn't change speeds and it is not dual core either so I did not need the patch that Helen provided. I run PC just fine.

I am trying this fix off of the AMD website

AMD Dual-Core Optimizer Version 1.1.4

File is too large to upload but here is the link
http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/dynamic ... 53&lang=us

***EDIT*** This did not work, Posting video of what happens at 1650*1080 resolution in windows 7 compatibility.

AS you can see it is really slow(choppiness is from video lag) but I move real slow and just basically spin around, could not shoot or jump, etc, and when looking at my favorites before starting the match, all games had a ping of 4.

Code: Select all

[Engine.Engine]
RenderDevice=GlideDrv.GlideRenderDevice
Question #1: are you using a Glide wrapper as your rendering device?

Code: Select all

[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
Translucency=True
VolumetricLighting=False
ShinySurfaces=True
Coronas=True
HighDetailActors=True
UseMipmapping=True
UseTrilinear=False
UseMultitexture=True
UsePageFlipping=True
UsePalettes=True
UseFullscreen=True
UseGammaCorrection=True
DetailTextures=False
Use3dfx=False
UseTripleBuffering=True
UsePrecache=True
Use32BitTextures=False
DescFlags=1
dwDeviceId=811
dwVendorId=4318
Use32BitZBuffer=False
UseVertexFog=False
UseAGPTextures=False
UseVideoMemoryVB=False
UseVSync=False
Description=NVIDIA Quadro FX 500/600 PCI
Question #2: it says you have an NVidia Quadro GPU, those cards are optimized for OpenGL and professional graphics softwares rather than for gaming. You may still wanna try using an updated OpenGL renderer though, since they have a CPU-controlled Frame Rate Limiter. UT starts acting weird with FPS values higher than 100.

Keller, Why don't you let me remote in and fix your stuff. You could also look at my maunual. I have a whole little section in there forusing a certain OpenGL renderer. My video card is basically one notch up from yours and it gives me no problems.

AMD Dual Core/UT99 fast/slow **fix**(Hopefully)

Post by ZippityDooDa » Sun Jul 31, 2011 12:59 am

I found this over at ut99.org, I will try this when I get home and see if it works.

Just grab the binary for UT under the Depreciated section. It gives you a new exe called CustomUnrealTournament to put in your System folder and run. It'll create a new CustomUnrealTournament.ini for itself that you can just copy your settings over from your original UT ini.

This issue seems to be more common with Dual Core AMD then anything else and will work on it till I figure it out or until my new system comes next month.

Could someone post the latest OpenGL drive for the specs above, same applies to the D3d drivers. Thanks.
