Unreal 101: Skinning trickery

Post by EvilGrins » Thu Aug 04, 2011 9:50 pm

As anyone who collects odd skins & models knows, if you hop into somebody else's game and they don't have whatever it is you choose to look like then you revert to the default skins & models they have on their system. It can be a little annoying but these are the things we have to deal with.

Now, rather than the default ut99 looks...is there anything you can do to your own system to make people that hop into your games look like a skin or model other than the defaults?

Like some skin or model you yourself made or something.

Do you mean hop into your server? If so then the server needs the skins installed or running Valhalavatar(however u spell it) then 2 players who ahve the same skin will see eachothers but no one esle will ( I assume).

Yes, there is a way to force people to have or get certain skins. Think of the sniper servers where they force people to be a certain model with a certain skin when they join. Yes, it can be and is done.

No, I don't need Valhalla. It would be a skin on my system and they would be hopping into my game. I'd just rather they not have the default ut99 skins, never was a fan of those.

I often play online as a Skaarj Trooper, classic Unreal 1 version. People that have it I can play as it when I'm in their games. People that don't, I get defaulted to a ThunderCrash, Male Soldier, skin.

I'd prefer that people that login to my games get defaulted to something other than the skins that're ut99's current defaults. Setup my own defaults. I'd just like to know how to get that setup.

ValhallAvatar will do that for you, but Val can be a bit buggy and can be also incompatible with some other mods.
I will take a look at doing this without Val. (see if it can be done)

The {DOU} use this method to force skins. Talk to them.

http://clandou.com/html/

These are friends of ours so mind your manners over there. They are a highly respected clan and we have a great association with them. Don't go screwing it up. LOL. Go to their forum and search for skin related content. You might even join and ask them for help. They are a great bunch of folks. You also recognize them when they play on our servers. They always have {DOU}PlayerName.
