I rarely spray blindly.
Still learning, I've noticed that when I do spray, it's a beacon to all to track me down.
Plus I usually blow my own damn self up in the process.
Nothing satisfies like a good subtle splat/crunch/squish of the telefrag.
The sniper types on some of the servers I play on HATE that!

Again...I play for the fun, the challenge and the mental stimulation-(thinking my way around a particular situation).
And I just don't see it when I spray. Because, I've said it before, in spraying your hoping to hit something.
Or you're aiming at spawn points hoping for a spawn kill. Sure you can win this way but talk about boring.
I'm learning spawn points but it doesn't make me a better player just someone who knows the map better than the next guy.
Sure I'll win more but it doesn't make me the better player.
The better player is the person that can win on maps we've never played before....like the 100 or so maps at my server.
Basically take someone out of his or her element ( the basic UT maps) and see what they got.
That's been my challenge since day one and I still haven't had one person try it.
It's that comfort thing and we all have our favorite maps. <---another old subject no one agrees with me on...lol
Venture out people.
Steps down from off his soap box.

While
While it is still possible for you to have a 1 on 1 with anyone in your environment, it is no longer possible for you to have a you against 8 others as good as me in my environment. All of those people have moved on and no longer play. Just as I hardly ever play now. You learned all of this redeemer mod stuff in the post Deemer Only era after the translocator was introduced into the game and large maps had become available.
Keep in mind, in the beginning when all this started there was only one server. It was not mine. It was not Schwantz's either. I don't know who it belong to but the name of it was "Curious George's Redeemer Insanity". It had 1 map only and it just replayed it over and over again forever. That map was Deck16][. The player load was constantly above 10 players and not a single round ever lasted more than 2 minutes. It disappeared one day never to return under the original unknown ownership. Then I found Schwantz's Redeemer Arena AKA <SRA>. It had the same no translocator redeemer mod but it cycled all of the original DM maps. Then after a year or two some new maps came along which were all still tiny DM maps. Then a couple of larger maps made the cycle. So consider that for years we all played on this server with nothing but small maps, no translocator and a full load of awesome players all of the time. Then I made CG. SRA shut down about a year later. during that year I added the Deemer Mod with the translocator. Then I added larger maps. Gradually, I added every single thing CG has now and everything you have on yours. Yes, I even had anticheat and more blood and spawn protection and at one point I even had monsters in addition to about 10 other mods. My folks could not handle the vast change so I reverted halfway back to the original form and thus now have the current CG.
My point is again that you would not stand a chance within 2 months of ever winning a single game even with your current skill sets while using all of the maps (small DM only) and mods (deemer mod/no translocator) of the original good old days. Then add in the lightning reflexes of 8-10 players that were as good as me on the same little map at the same time. Sheeesh! I wish that some oldies besides Scify would jump in here and confirm what I say. Chef? Nameless? Skank? Bodacious? Vette? Anybody? I'm telling you MEAT that you may be the best 1 on 1 in your current settings but chances are far better than not that you would suck badly for months before ever breaking into the top half of the winner column based on the gameplay of the old days. There I said it. DIE!!!!!!!!!!!! Hehehe. I do not EVER want to take you on 1 on 1 but I'm sure that if I practiced and all of that I could come pretty close to beating you. I have used your method of game play before. I taught people how to do what you do. I do know your game. You have added one other aspect to your process that I have not ever mastered and that has to do with jumping and translocation to "get a better view". That is the only thing you do right now that I don't know how to do as well as you. All the rest of it I can or could do again with a few weeks or months of active gameplay. I challenge you to round up 10 former good players from SRA and play under our conditions and try to win. Hehehe. That would be so sweet. Put KindBud, Death, Virus, Mahatma, Jester, Deadman, Bodacious and Maximus all in one map at one time with me and see if you ever beat a high score of 5. I'm serious. It was that crazy back then and we were that good. There is so much more skill than you think but you haven't been able to ever be in this type of situation and sadly most likely never will be able to be in this type of situation. Snif snif baaaahhhhhhh...

And at the end of their UT careers half those guys would leave when I played.
Because they knew that I knew their secrets.
Actually it wasn't a secret...all they did was spawn kill.
Be it spawn point kills or loop of poop to open areas.
You get 10 guys doing the same thing anyone can win.
But it was the guy in that one strategic spot that usually won.
And of all those guys only Mahatma and you had other skills.
The rest were sprayers and back then that was the only way to win.
No one was really guiding their "guided" enhanced missiles.
DeathInc and VETTE were the worst...if they didn't get the lead from the start they would leave...lol
Now that's a fact.

Now I say that is where you are wrong and don't get it. Yes, anybody can win but it never was anybody. It was always the same peeps and always map after map after map. Yes. The spot you got mattered but not totally by any means. We all learned how to and tried to take out peeps from the best spots. It wasn't just one good player vs another. It was many more against each other. I give. I just won't ever be able to get the point across to you. Yes, you did great on CG after a while but never while CG was like SRA and never on SRA. That is what I keep saying. You weren't there back then. You got there years after everybody left and then the whole thing changed with adding the trans and large maps and all of that. THEN you showed up. The curtain was already down my friend. The show was already over. Now it's all different from back then.

Yeah, I used to play redeemer once in awhile back then in early 2000s.
It really WAS Insanity!
I played it only because I just couldn't look away!
Like a bad accident!
I wouldn't win, but I just liked playing redeemer for some reason.
Somewhere back then I met Hermskii.
I didn't join Redeemer Insanity for quite awhile later - then I joined this forum a while after that one.
I didn't play Redeemer Insanity, CG or SRA often enough to improve or for anyone to get to know me very well.
I just came back here and there for punishment! LOL
I am much better at Regular UT than I am at redeemer.
But I am improving some!

Loop of Poop...lolHook wrote: It IS part of redeemer!
(Just like Loop of Poop)
Not always a good thing but it is an embarrassing part of it!
Named correctly and when used is embarrassing yes.
But in small maps you do what you have to do to win.
And speaking of Spraying...I just ran off a couple regulars
over at CG. I didn't want to because it was fun watching
them spray without a clue what they were doing.
As soon as they would spawn they would spray.
They didn't hide in a corner, didn't find high ground.
As soon as they would spawn they would spray.
And half the time they would not hit a thing.
Come on people...if you're going to spray first learn
some spawn points. Or at least look in the direction
you're firing.
And the funniest part is you can't tell them what they
are doing wrong...they won't listen.
And what's with players deliberately killing themselves
when they see someone elses missile closing in on them?

Forget it Herm, MEAT doesn't want to understand. I've tried to explain how it was back then too.Hermskii wrote:You said:

In all fairness though, if he had been around in those days and had stuck it out, he would have been another of the later players like Kind Bud, VETTE and DI who filled the shoes of those of the originals who had already moved on.
Speaking along those lines, I must say that UT STAR has mastered the game very nicely. She reminds me of Mahatma, because she just hates the large maps too. I don't think we'll be seeing her at MEAT'S or Klown's any time soon.
Also, that kid from Russia who calls herself VIKA-Russia 1999 is coming along.
Both of them know the spam points quite well, and how to maintain control of them. However for them to be properly schooled in the ways of the CG of old, you might want to increase the number of bots back up to the old number. Yes, they will end the maps even sooner, but I have observed them both getting away with positions and techniques that just wouldn't have worked before, when you had an extra couple of bots spawning behind you, as they did in the old days.

Oh, and another thing. Maybe you should give MEAT that redeemer mod that Schwantz used for a time on his server. You know, the one that had no translocator, and you got only 25 redeemers for ammo. When you ran out you had to go pick up the redeemer ammo that was scattered about the map. The lack of a translocator and the need to fetch ammo every so often might make a cool change on those huge maps that MEAT runs on his server.

Spawn and bot kills where the name of the game.
If you could learn maps/spawn points and find a good advantage
point you had a good chance to win.
And in my prime, so to speak, I played CG I use run off Death Inc and VETTE.
If those two guys didn't get the lead from the start or if you had their
"secret spot"...they would leave.
I never left and I lost a lot but I watched and I learned.
I learned from the best and I became one of the best.
Not saying I was the best...I doubt you could put a finger on who was the
best because it was always a fight to see who could get to that one
advantage point on a map.
And we all had our favorite maps and we all sprayed strategically.
Strategically meaning spraying at spawn points.
Plus it didn't hurt being one of the first to enter a map.
You need to get out more nameless...VIKA-RUSSIA was one of the guys I ran off at CG.a nameless entity wrote:Speaking along those lines, I must say that UT STAR has mastered the game nicely. He's a perfect example of a "Spray & Pray" player.
In the two maps we played together, before he ran off, he was clueless on spawn points.
On the other hand UTStar is a good spawn/bot killer.
