OpenGL Rendering. Crock of Poop!

Post by Fuzz_Ball » Fri Jun 19, 2009 6:53 pm

Maybe it's due to these "help" files & sites being 6 to 9 years old.
I keep reading how using OpenGL Rendering is the ultimate way to tweek UT.
I've spent a great amount of time re-configuring my system according to the ut bible guys at ut99clans4fun website ( [eC]-Server guys).
And although it looks - OK at best, my performance freekin SUXXX!!!
I'm getting blasted by stand & spray idiots, small barnyard animals and microscopic bacteria.
I'm going back to Direct 3D Rendering. I'm already tired of having my a$$ handed to me.

Quickest and easiest way to get UT looking nice is to use D3D9 and have AA (Anti Aliasing) turned on and where it says NumOFAAsamples have it about 8 ull be surprised how much better UT just by turning AA on.

The people who just stand somewhere high and shoot redeemers at all the spawnpoints I find very worrying.

Worrying because if you complain about the camp-spawnkill then people start asking if your a newbie...
Surely it says nothing good about the way things work if all the experienced players consider camp-spawnkill combos to be the accepted way the game works
Where's an anticamp mod when you need one? :P

Excellent points there, Cow-Boy!
Fortunately, there are all levels of players in this arena.
There is always a player who stands in the open and launches blindy - easy game.
The spawnkill debate rages heartily here and many "old school" redeemer players hail the spawn kill as an honored technique while others strongly reject it.
I'm not a big fan of it as a strategy and there are SO MANY UT gamers & Server Operators (non redeemer types) who agree with you & me .
This is why MEAT's and Klownz's servers are in use today. They offer a second or 2 of spawn protection and generally bigger maps.

I hope to see more of you redeeming yourself and look forward to fragging your flank-steaks!

Thanks for the good idea, Sup. I do have AA on but will bump the samples amount to 8 & see what happens.

Of course, both of us have serious characters and are skilled at CG...

The Fuzzy Noob Skaarj Vs The Fat Noob Cow.

That will be a fight to see

From my experience over the years - everybody's UT tweaks just a bit different.
One thing works great for some and not for others.
You just have to find your own tweaks for a lot of it.
UT was made to run on D3D as the norm, but not for every computer's configuration.
Like mine runs awesome on D3D as I have one of the recommended graphics cards listed on the UT99 box. :P
Same card that some of the UT99 game designers used at the time.
Nvidia RIVA TNT2 Pro 32mb
Find a cheap Old Computer and this old card and you are In Like Flint!
