UT taking Forever to shut down
So when I close the game, my desktop has this "washed out" look until the UT process is fully ended.
Everything is very slow and I still hear the UT theme music playing.
I usually have to "End Task" on the processs, sometimes trying that 3 times or more.
I'm using the Cache Cleaner and it helps for Starting UT.
Just takes forever to shut down.
Is anyone familiar with this type of problem?

Re: UT taking Forever to shut down
I have had it happen on occasion - but it is usually when I shut it down right when it is trying to load another map on the rotation. (or something like that scenario)
It only happens rarely though under special circumstances as I mentioned.

Re: UT taking Forever to shut down
Known issue. It has something to do with using Direct3D and it linking itself to sound drivers in the game.
Want to test this? Change your video renderer to OpenGL. Then restart the game again and then shut down. It is instant.

Thanks Herm.
I had a feeling it had something to do with audio or video.
Time to start searching the Googley-web thing.

Re: UT taking Forever to shut down
OpenGL + ATI graphic cards = waste of time
D3D + ATI graphic cards = DirectSound problems
Software Rendering Mode + ATI graphic cards = so fugly
- Go to your UnrealTournament\System folder;
- search for a file named UnrealTournament.INI;
- first of all make a back-up copy of the file;
- now open it with Notepad or a simple text editor;
- under the [Galaxy.GalaxyAudioSubsystem] section change the following entry:
- UseDirectSound=True
- to UseDirectSound=False
- save and exit
My UT was literally stuck at start-up some months ago: it used to work fine before but it suddenly stopped loading smoothly, so I had to disable the DirectSound thing in order to have it working again.

Thanks *POTS* for the tip.
I made the change and instead of taking 5 minutes to shut down,
it only takes 2.
I guess that's an improvement.

I have no idea Supreme, I think you should give it a try. Anyway I'm still using the original, old D3D driver for UT, cause both D3D8 and D3D9 are stuck in 32 bit mode on my old laptop, and OpenGl sucks with ATI drivers, like you said in a previous post.

I really don't know, give it a try, in the worst case replace the edited file with your back-up copy and you're fine. Maybe you guys/gals have a different problem related to WinVista drivers.
