The economy here is so bad that . . .

Post by Hook » Tue Feb 16, 2010 3:33 pm

The economy here is so bad that . . .
· I got a pre-declined credit card in the mail.
· I ordered a burger at McDonald's and the kid behind the counter asked, "Can you afford fries with that?"
· CEO's are now playing miniature golf.
· If the bank returns your check marked "Insufficient Funds," you call them and ask if they meant you or them.
· Hot Wheels and Matchbox stocks are trading higher than GM.
· Parents in Beverly Hills fired their nannies and learned their children's names..
· A truckload of Americans was caught sneaking into Mexico.
· "Expletive Deleted" Cheney took his stockbroker hunting.
· Motel Six won't leave the light on anymore.
· Exxon-Mobil laid off 25 Congressmen.
· Congress says they are looking into this Bernard Madoff scandal. Oh Great!! The guy who made $50 Billion disappear is being investigated by the people who made $1.5 Trillion disappear!

And, finally...
· I was so depressed last night thinking about the economy, wars, jobs, my savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc., I called the Suicide Lifeline. I got a call center in Pakistan and when I told them I was suicidal, they got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck.

I´m sure Biomech did not mean to mock the people who had problems during this economic crisis in the US.

I think he was just trying to remark the satire of the jokes; like saying "I liked the way satire has been used in these jokes".

Mmm, I like satire...

I don't see how my comment could have been interpreted as mockery though, it's not like I was saying "poor people, LOL"

It´s understandable that this is a very sensitive topic; you only need to read the newspaper or watch some TV to realize how many people in the US have been affected.

However, I believe that neither Hook nor Biomech were trying to mock the people who have suffered or are suffering this crisis. I´m sure this is just a misunderstanding because like I said, it´s a very sensitive topic.

The wisest thing to do now is to avoid further discussion; how about considering this topic as closed?

No way. I enjoyed it though I suffer with many others. It was obviously meant to lighten our heavy hearts. Keep em coming as I thought that was a very good one actually. Thanks.

Hook, I enjoyed it. If you can not laugh in the situation that you might be in then you know you have let the situation win. Trust me, satire is fine. It can help yourself and others.

I'm with David, the only purpose of satire is supposed to be providing some comic relief. There's nothing wrong with that.

I LUCKED out big time and got another good job after only being out 2 months.
(Oh and my wife had the Bigger income by far!)
So we had to cut WAY back now.

Well I didn't notice this thread back in February. It's spot on, isn't it? Laying off some congressmen, motel 6 won't leave the light on any more, too funny!

And that call centre in Pakistan, just beautiful!

So keep those jokes rolling in eh? I could use a laugh at it all.
I'm a man........but I can change........if I have to........I guess
