Map Question
How long would it take to make a single perfectly square room map that is about 100ft X 100ft X 100ft and has brick walls, a grass floor, a grass ceiling and a torch in the middle of each wall about 6ft off the ground? There would be 4 spawn points. Each would be about 5 ft away from each corner. In the middle of the room would be a statue of Sir Mandrake.
I don't want this map made by anyone. I just want to know how long it would take a great mapper vs a good mapper vs a crappy mapper time-wise. maybe I should call that differently. I meant a very experienced mapper vs a medium experienced mapper vs a new mapper.
Would it be 10 minutes? 30 minutes? 3 hours? 1 day? 3 days?

Re: Map Question
I've never tried my hand at mapping but i'm guessing, with just the 3 textures for the walls & floor and ceiling, 1 or 2 textures for the torch, 1 texture for the statue, and the limited number of items in said room that aren't weapons (be fun with just chainsaws) that it might go for about an hour tops.
Keeping in mind, I've never tried mapping so this is pure guesswork.

Re: Map Question
I am humbled and extremely Honored that anyone would want a Statue of me in such a place of paradise... as total carnage would no doubt ensue around my Gigantic solidified form.
But to answer your question.... I know that a well seasoned and experienced mapper could do it in 15min.
Decent mapper.. 30
Someone inexperienced with mapping but knows the basics of a general map.. 1 hour.

Re: Map Question
Yeah the map itself wouldn't take 10 mins. Tops!
The Statue would take more time, if it is a Custom Statue.

You just know someone is going to make this map and then trap you inside it, right?

Re: Map Question
Actually, there is a notorious map (for Redeemer Arena) that is very much like what Hermskii described that has been around for a good number of years and is totally INSANE to play with a group playing Re3deemer Arena.
That is the one with the pole in the middle - instead of the proposed statue.

Re: Map Question
Not including the statue, and the end result can be crappy...Hermskii wrote:How long would it take to make a single perfectly square room map that is about 100ft X 100ft X 100ft and has brick walls, a grass floor, a grass ceiling and a torch in the middle of each wall about 6ft off the ground? great mapper: 5 mins
medium mapper: 30 mins
newbie: 8 hours
great mapper would not take 5 though, they would...
- pick textures that work well together
- align textures
- strategically place lights by torches
- choose light color/effects
- make a nice stand or cubby for the torches
- make the torches nicer than a single sheet
- add path nodes
so a couple of hours.
Custom Statue? many many hours.

Re: Map Question
So there you have it. Even a great mapper might take several hours to make this map. I don't have several hour much less several weeks to make a few rooms in a map. That is why I don't even try. God hates quiters. LOL. Actually he doesn't but lucky me...I never started so I never quit.
