Sometimes I feel some nostalgia for my 1st bike, a 1977 Yamaha XS650 standard model, with spoke wheels and a traditional long bench seat.

A few things I don't miss are:
Adjusting the points (a sometimes exasperating chore)
Adjusting the timing only to have it go off a bit after a month or so due to wear on the points rubbing blocks
Adjusting the valve clearances (not hard, but just another chore to do when you'd rather be riding)
Cleaning and oiling the chain.

Well, here's a bike that looks and sounds nice, looks very similar to the old XS650, and only leaves you with the chain cleaning chore.
This is the best review I've found so far:

This Royal Enfield seems to bring back the good old days with modern reliability and fewer maintenance chores. And it has a very good price point. Nice! x2 :D

He rides too fast in my opinion. I also can't get used to that driving on the left side of the road. The exhaust sound crappy. It is way too muffled. My current bike sounds muffled like that and I hate it. It looks like an old late 70's Honda CB750 or something like one.

Sorry but that bike did nothing for me but the rview was very well done for someone who is really considering one of these motorcycles. Nothing wrong with Retro and based on that this would seem to be very-very well done.

Thanks for sharing that!

I agree on the sound. I must admit I'm torn on the idea of louder pipes: During my trip down the blue ridge parkway in 1992 my hog's low restriction mufflers frightened a lot of wildlife, which was disappointing. All I'd see of the wild turkeys was their tail feathers as they panic flew off the edge of the cliffs to escape the noise they mistook for a predator. At one point a doe and her fawn started to run uphill away from me. The fawn panicked and ran away from its mother downhill as I went past.
Because of that, I decided that if I ever bought a touring bike that I would leave the stock pipes installed.

However, I'd never tour on the Royal Enfield, so an install of a K&N low restriction air filter and a set of low restriction mufflers would be in order for this bike.
Also, once they became available I would put a set of Progressive Suspension's fork springs and 444 rear shocks onto the bike.

I saw an electric dirt-bike a few years ago and thought it was stupid as hell but then went hunting a year ago and realized that there is a need for silent transportation. An electric motorcycle is the perfect answer for hunters.

That would suck big-time. I wonder what that would feel like to have 1 rear brake activate like the right one but not the other. I suspect the bike would pull to the right so you'd have to steer left a little bit until you stop??? Software controlling hydraulic brakes. I have to wonder about that. There are some things I'd prefer to keep old style.

Ordinarily I would agree, but this is a software problem with the traction control system. A 2019 and later trike with properly running systems is a much safer machine than the older models. As I understand it, once the 2019's came out with all the safety and operating improvements, there was a rush by older model owners to trade up to the newer machines.

I hate the 2020 model's paint choices, so even if I won the lotto today, I'd still wait for a 2021 model. Harley does seem to drop the ball in paint schemes every few years. There's only one colour that isn't totally fugly this year. :?

Oooo I do love Ducati's. I doubt if I could still fold myself up sufficiently to fit let alone ride one of those any more though.

Hello Fertooos and welcome to this forum. Why don't you think you can get on a Ducati anymore? What is your riding experience? Do you play UT?

I chased the $70kkk + maxmillions in the "LottoMax" lottery for 7 weeks until someone else finally won the jackpot. Tickets are $5 each, so I spent 35 well wasted dollars. ;)

Only two colours for the new HD trikes appear to be not totally fugly for 2021 as it turns out. The "Billiard Red", and the Greenish/Blackish "Snake Venom". I'd have to see the Snake Venom in person to see if I liked it. Both colours add big bucks to the list price. 1k and 2.1k respectively.

While I'm dreaming, I might as well wish for a new garage to put my new toy into as well.......

Geez, another HD dealership has given up in my area. I lost my Oakville dealer last year, and now the 2nd closest has sold out to an auto group even farther away. I've heard rumours that the motor company is suffering too.

I don't get it. What happened to all the help that all levels of government have been doling out to small, medium, and large companies?

*********
Okay, I think I'm going to come right out and say it: I think HD's hubris has gotten the better of them, and it's really screwing their dealers. Back in the late '90's they started a policy that forbade HD dealers from selling other brands of motorcycles. (Unless they could keep the HD's in a separate building or showroom, they had to get rid of their Japanese machines, or lose their franchise to sell Harley's. How stupid is that?)
