ut2k4 relating to ut99

The ut2004 gametype Invasion is more like Monster Madness: Us Against Them than it is like Monster Hunt but it's still good fun. However, my question doesn't have to to with that.

I'm not as familiar with ut2004 as I am with ut99 but in the original if you joined a hosted game and you had a skin/model they had then you'd see yourself as that character and so would everyone else there. However, if however you looked wasn't on the hosted site then you and everyone else saw you as a default skin/model.

I just started playing Invasion online the other day and, me being me, I was playing as a Skaarj. Specifically, this one:



Now this skin is a little unusual, even for Skaarj, but I could see myself in games I joined this way so I'm assuming everyone else did too. However, ut2004 may be different enough that people were seeing me as something other than I saw myself as.

So, which is it?

That is an awesome skin! Can it wear team color red? Get on my UT2K4 Chaos server with Nameless and let him post a picture here or pm you with an attachment of what he sees. He is usually on the Chaos server around 9:00 PM.

Yeah, but only red & blue. ut2k4 has 4-way teamplay but it's something you have to get, doesn't come with it.

This skaarj comes in a pack with 8 others, though oddly only 3 of them have red & blue. The other 5 only have blue.

This is upsetting. I'm at home now and this skin looks so much worse on my PC than on my pc at work. Now I have to figure out what is different in the video settings. My home PC is so much darker!

You nailed it. I like my black to be black but my brightness was down to 15 of 100. I moved it up to about forty and all of the pattern showed up nicely. the screen is a little washed out looking now but I can see plenty of patterns that were just shawdows before. I'll keep messing with stuff.

Edit: It's all good now. All thanks to you E.G. for posting that one shot. It had just jumped out at me the difference between here and at work and I knew something was wrong.

Up until about a year ago I still had the monitor I got with my 1st PC, which was a PS/1. It had gotten so old that the brightest setting was actually quite dark. So when I got my next monitor, I nearly went blind at relatively normal settings.
