Pictures from the New Mexico Launch as seen from Arizona

Post by David » Thu Sep 13, 2012 2:32 pm

I was washing my work vehicle on 09/13/12 around 0530 hours this morning. When I saw a flash and then the trail. I knew in the past that missiles are launched from New Mexico and are sometimes seen in Arizona. This is what I saw.

What was crazy for me was that I posted these pictures on my wife's Facebook account (I don't have one because I would be vocal enough to get me in trouble) and my cousin in Utah (I believe she lives north of Salt Lake) and she informed me that this missile launch was visible to her as well. It is crazy how far this thing was seen, even though it looked like it was near me.

With the moon behind the rocket's contrail, you have a very nice photograph. If you can use photoshop or paint to darken the blue sky the way a polarizing photo filter would, your photographs will look really dramatic with the white plume and moon against the dark blue sky.

That sort of photo often gets published in magazines such as Sky & Telescope or National Geographic, amoung others. :)
I'm a man........but I can change........if I have to........I guess

Yes, I like those shots like that.
I would like to find the time to do more photography - I used to do it a lot when I was young - even went to photography school. :P
