Hey m8 I'm worried that there may have developed a misunderstanding about what I was talking about in game.
By all means set your cache purge rate to once every 180 days. At the end of the six months, all maps will be lost and you will have to begin to d/l them from the servers again, but that's ok. You will keep your game folder smaller, and you'll lose the maps you no longer play, or have been removed from the server.
To pull them out of cache with a program like cache converter will permanently put all maps and their related files into the correct places, but then you are stuck with them. Even if you dump the maps you no longer want from your map folder manually, you will still be stuck with all of the related sound, music, and texture files that came with the map. This will cause the size of you UT folder to swell, and if space ever becomes an issue on your hard drive............
I got the impression that you were planning to put any maps you download from places like Nali City into your cache folder. That won't work, unless you can put the correct extension onto each file for the map on properly somehow.
I don't go and get files from Nali City anymore, I just download the maps I want to play from the game servers, as I need them. But of course this means I cannot practice offline. But I don't need to worry about file mismatches this way either. So it's a trade off, yes.

No I don't use those. If I want to practice on a map badly enough, I will d/l it and install; but I haven't felt the need to do that for a very long time. In fact I think the only time I've gone and gotten a map in recent memory was sometime after MH-LostInTime was released. I went and got that one so that I could "fly" around in the map, and figure out its layout.

You can always ask Cardiologist, I think he is selling maps if you need any!a nameless entity wrote:...In fact I think the only time I've gone and gotten a map in recent memory was sometime after MH-LostInTime was released. I convert everything I get & I still got space on my drive! After 5+ years worth, it does add up but at least I can say I got them still!
Although if some don't like to, one can just go in the UT.ini & change the purgecache to 999999 days or better yet just 0 (but the chache files tend to take up more disk space over time).
