From what I hear, these events are just a map full of people shooting and killing whatever moves with no emphasis really on team play or team strategy.
Anyway to actually setup a team tournament and not just a free for all? Maybe have 3 man teams competing against other 3 man teams in a round robin type of event?
Just an idea...

Yup i agree post a thread and find out who is interested work out the ladders and dates then see if you can get the "teams" in at the times stated !!!!The Jargonaut wrote:MEAT, take that idea and run with it.
You know, there are no official tourney makers here. Someone just steps up to the plate and announces it.
So instead of suggesting it, make it happen.
GOOD LUCK

Honestly, I have no clue what to do from here other than presenting the idea and seeing who is interested and seeing who can run with it. If this was real life(hands on) and a real situation I'd have no problem...but when it comes to dealing computers and the internet...I be lost.
But if someone could walk me thru it or co-help I'd be happy to go further....again, only if you guys are interested.
looking for help?

So start thinking...
Since you want teams, what is the best way for players to form teams.
What is the motivation?
How do I sell the idea?
The fact is that most everyone here is a casual player of the game. I am now in a clan, so my gameplay is COMPLETELY different because I want to be an active and successful member of this group of people. That requires work on my part. To be successful, you need the same type of ethic from all of your teams. THIS will be the tough part.
So I challenge you to make it happen. As I stated above, I will help spread the word as much as I can. I leave the actual planning and creation of this event in your hands.
If I were you, I would first see if there is someone that would be willing to host these events. Won't do you a bit of good getting teams together and planning the scoring/elimination parts if you do not have a place to play.
I have no doubt that you can make it happen. Good luck to you. Let me know when you want me to start spreading the word.
Do you think that we had anyone to help us? Nope. We had to struggle through it. To be frank, I have learned a little from every one of these tourneys. There is no correct way to do them. Since I do not know how you have these set up in your mind, I really can not help except to spread the word as much as I can.NO! No different. Only different in your mind.

The bug
Sounds to me like Jarg has the bug. Good for you Jarg. I don't see myself ever getting the UT Tourney bug as you have shown it takes too much thought. I like the suttle way you are calling out MEAT too. I really have to work with MEAT and get his server going. This is a great chance for him being there are now so many know it alls out there (here) to help.
I'm going to review and update my how to manual to make sure 1. It works. 2. Is simple enough for noobs to get over the hump and just try.

Me?? Nah. I just want to help those that do this. I have tried and the results are not up to my expectations. Though I will gladly help anyone out as I know how frustrating these things can be.Sounds to me like Jarg has the bug.
I DO like playing in the tourneys. If I do not have anything to worry about, I think that it can be enjoyable. If I do one get one together in the future, I will insist that I be a referee in spectator mode, and not an actual player.
IF I had that server up and running, then I would gladly set it up for team DM and give MEAT admin rights. I simply do not have a spare PC to do that with now. Gotta find me an Intel Coppermine mobo for cheap (free).

MEAT,
I notice that you get really quiet when someone even brings up the idea of you hosting a server. It really is not that bad.
It would be a good situation for you. You really can not expect to have Herm or Kid or Tommy change their servers to fit your taste. After all, the servers belong to them. With a server of your own, you can make it to fit your taste. Funny thing is, you can use the PC that you have now as a server, though with your bandwidth you can not host as many people on it. This seems to suit you because you like a smaller crowd. You put ONLY the maps you want on it, you control EVERYTHING!
Speaking of EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING you need to know is located at the following link:
http://www.unrealadmin.org/
Look over this site a little. Try out a basic server for a bit using your OWN computer. Then start tinkering with stuff. You will be a server nazi in no time at all.
Oh heck, they even have an automatic .ini generator! THis will make your job REALLY easy.

Like I said before I'm clueless when it comes to computers and the internet. Half the things I hear you guys talk about go right over my head. And to top it off I have no idea where to begin....seriously.
However.....now that I have a couple links/threads to look at I might be on my way.
Thanks for the help Jarg...I'll work on it
