Eavy Server Browser ... Problem ...

Post by Hook » Tue Apr 14, 2009 2:46 pm

I know that no one has had any problems with this mod BUT...
I have.
It makes my router/modem (DSL) re-boot every time I browse for servers in UT.
This adds a minute or 2 to the loading time so you see what I am saying!
Any ideas? :?

I just use UT Turbocheck, I'm glad I've not installed this Heavy Server thingy.

Did you try the things I mentioned? What happens when it runs on a different PC? What happens when it runs on a friends? This mod should not be able to mess up your router in any way. This mod rules.

I haven't been able to install it on any other comp.
I even removed it and it still reboots my router/modem.
I believe what this mod does is to install one of those router/modem booster patches. :(
I know this works on 99.999% of those comps out there but for some reason it only slightly increased the speed of the browser over what I had already done.
(mine was already quite fast - loading up in about 40 to 50 seconds before installing EavyServerBrowser)
When I removed Eavy ServerBrowser, my browser went back to its normal fast loading speed that it had before, but now it still reboots the router/modem.
I may have to re-install my player UT after 9 years of it running smoothly. :(
I have never had to re-install UT.

It does not effect your router settings in any way. It adjust your browser settings in UT to utilize other master server listings that work faster. Sorry Hook but it is your router and not the mod. You can also always reset your router to factory original settings then update the firmware on it and lastly, reset all of your port forwording or DMZsettings depending on how you had it before.

Note also that I reinstall UT about 4 times a year to keep it clean and straight. Congrats on your record of running without a rebuild but really, I feel that record is going to be also most of your problem. It doesn't hurt to rebuild and I suggest you do it and DON'T copy over anything from your last install. Make this one pure and clean.

Sing it Herm....

I've seen my installs corrupt over the years for no reason at all. It just happens. I usually plan on a 3 or 4 month rebuild.

WOW - I haven't really had any problems with my long running UT player install.
But, now with this problem I think it is a must.
Even with Eavy's Server Browser NOT installed now it re-boots the router.
It only did this after once installing Eavy's browser.
It definitely changed something that isn't within the UT game, but within the router I believe as I have put the game back to the way it was before installing the browser.

What exactly DOES Eavy server browser do?
I would really like to know.
I seriously doubt that it just uses better master servers as this would not make any sense Hermskii.
Think about it - master servers can come and go.
No, I really think it uses some sort of modem "booster" software.
I have never seen any master server run any faster than any other one.
Oh well, I'll find out what is going on one of these days.
I'll keep digging! :D

It has a much much faster sort and ping algorithm than the standard engine. You gotta remember UT was coded in the days of dial up. I don't think they ever dreamed that 16MB pipes were ever going into houses.
Eavy does absolutely nothing to your router. Honestly nothing should affect the router from your computer ever and if it does you have a major issue. A router is an independent gateway, nothing more. No program should alter it's function ever, it should only alter it's own (like selecting ports, etc). If that port is closed on the router, it won't get out. This is why it takes a browser to access the router.
Think of a router as a computer between your computer and the internet.

OK that makes better sense.
I'll have to investigate this - slowly - and see what I find out.
On MY game I should have just left it as it was, as it used to load in about 40 to 50 seconds. :|
