My mother is dying...

Hello everyone. I wanted to drop you all a quick note about what is going on in my life right now.

My mother is currently in a hospice where we expect her to die within the next few days. She is 76 years old and is dying from emphysema and C.O.P.D. induced pneumonia. What does that mean? It means she smoked about 2 packs of cigarettes a day for about 60 years and has been suffering the effects of that for a few years now. She recently got more sick and a common sickness called pneumonia moved in to her lungs as well since they were already in such bad health. Pneumonia claims about 35,000 lives each year in the USA.

I'm struggling with this badly as are my brother and two sisters. My father died when I was only 6 so my Mom has always really been the light of my life. I love her dearly and will suffer dearly when she is gone. I don't expect this event to alter anything here other than if the servers crash I may not know it for several days before I get them back up.

I'm sure several of you will send in your prayers and best wishes and I won't be replying for a long time from today but let me say now how much my family and I appreciate them. Thanks again for any and all support and I hope to get in a few more post here before the mourning period begins at which time I'll likely be away from here for long periods of time. Maybe I'll be here more since this is therapeutic for me. We'll see. I hope to talk to you all again soon. As my loving Mother would say, God Bless and Take Care.

Words don't really convey the right thoughts do they?

Tonight I will go to a place considered sacred by the Coquille Indians. It's a high bluff overlooking the ocean. The old people considered it good luck to toss an offering there to mother nature and tribesmen and locals still quietly do. It's supposed to bring peace, and although I am Christian and don't share in the beliefs, I find it soothing to my soul to go there. I will offer for her.

I too am unable to say much, It is regretful to lose someone that dear to you, but may you find rest in the thought that you knew her during the brighter times in her life. May she rest in peace and her soul watch over you.

Update. Mom is still alive and not only that, she seems to be recovering. She woke up several days ago after being out-cold for a week. She did not eat or drink during that week of time. She woke up and wanted to read a TV Guide magazine and watch a Dr. Phil show. She is still at the hospice but they are kicking her out because she is too healthy now. She can't walk or anything anymore and is still not out of the woods but we have a doctor coming in to give her another look and give us orders to move her out of the hospice into a rehab. We'll know in the next few days. She has been awake and eating and drinking with us for the last few days and has her good color back now and no longer requires oxygen constantly. Geee, I said "and" 4 times in that last sentence. Sorry. I'm just excited. I'll pop in with another update around Sunday or Monday of next week.

Quick update:

Mom took a turn for the worse. Here is the slightly edited message I sent out today:


Dear friend or family member,

This is Hermskii writing you this message on behalf of my mother and myself. Mom requested that I notify each of you in her email address book should things come to pass which have occurred. This particular email is from my personal computer and email address book because I have several friends who would care and I have several email addresses that Mom didn’t have in her most recent rebuilt email address book due to computer hard drive failure.

Mom passed away last night (06-10-09), around 2:30 A.M. at a hospice where she had been for the last few weeks. She slipped away from us as she had wanted to; peacefully and in her sleep.

She had been suffering from Emphysema and C.O.P.D. over the last few years and then she tangled with a nasty case of pneumonia recently that eventually assisted in taking her from us last night.

I want to take this time to thank each of you for your contribution to her life. Mom loved everyone! I love knowing that she is now with my father, her own parents and everyone who has gone before her to touch the face of God. Though tears stream down my face now as I type this, I am smiling. I smile knowing that she is finally at peace!

She would want you to pass this message along to anyone who may care to know so please do so to whomever you see fit. Details of the Rosary and the Funeral are still being worked out though we expect to have them listed clearly in the obituary.
