I would think that some fooling around is OK on most servers.
That is Part of the fun and comradeship of the game.

I love fooling around, it's fun, but I wouldn't do it at the expense of someone truly wanting to play.

Just saying also that I think Hermskii would allow it at appropriate times and that he would even encourage it - At Appropriate times.

The thing is, when we are goofing around we are not ''teasing'' any players who want to play a normal game.
If we're goofing around when the other player(s) want to play we are not doing anything to them or annoy them.
We're just playing or own game and not interfere them in any way.

Yeah, if we want to spend some time chatting or boosting eachother up cliffs then that's us doing private things, the other players can ignore us if they want.
If they feel it is interfering with their game, then they are over-sensitive.
Of course, the routine is too deeply established:

MHM: Goofing around!
Players: stop having fun and play!
MHM: We're enjoying eachother's company
Players: Yeah well the game is about killing stuff, so stop having fun you noobs
MHM: We know we can beat the map, we have beaten it, we have nothing to prove.
Players: If you dont want to kill things then dont play, computer games arent meant for meeting other people!
MHM: I no longer consider you worthy of attention.
gopostal: MHM has a real problem with "I can do what I like"

I never understood this ridiculous attitude many people have, where the only acceptable thing to do is to play a map that you've played twenty times before, and nothing else.

And if it is *so boring* why not move on to something else? I think it's because Herm tolerates this stuff. It wouldn't matter what the gametype was, there would be a group of five or six that still sat on the server doing this simply because it's not tolerated anywhere else. You guys keep finding that doing this on other servers isn't welcome. That should tell you something (but it won't).

Sorry Gopo but I have to disagree with this whole paragraph.

-Why not move on?
Simple! Unlike other communities or clans we're all very good friends. In fact I consider the people on this forum as a second family. So we may not fully enjoy the maps we're playing and such but we enjoy eachother and we find new ways to play that map.

-Bugging other players.
I can't say some of us have never bugged people who were playing. I myself haven't seen anyone bug anyone for awhile. Maybe said a comment to someone or something small like that but not disrupt their whole game (unless its a MHM disrupting a MHM but we all love that ). If they don't like us goofing off and messing around by our selves then I feel its not our problem.

-Different gametypes.
You say we would act the same but you forget you gave us a DM/JB server awhile back. We didn't just sit around and do stuff. We would play because we have more of a challenge in DM and JB but avoiding Hellfys insta aimbot and Rei's shockrifle gets old after awhile too. So ya I can recall a few times where some of us sat around but I don't recall it ever being a time any other person was on the server.

-Hermskii's rules
None of this I can say for sure because I'm obviously not Herm. I think he would encourage us goofing off (as long as no other players were involved) because he used to with his SRA friends and he talks about the good times it gave him.

-Problem
I like you Gopo your a great mapper/coder/player and person but I think you and most of the MHM will always have this disagreement. We all enjoy and appreciate all the stuff you do but we as a community have different views on too many things to ever come to an agreement with stuff like how to play. And you did tell everyone numerous times that the temp server was a no rules server. You did however post warnings so you do have the right to tell us we did wrong. But starting this whole discussion on how you think we're all selfish kids will only make you look worse in some of our eyes. Its not a 'we can do what we want' attitude. It just a unique way of playing. We keep to ourselves for the most part. We don't try to hurt anyone but you always make it seem like we're trying to murder them through this game and that is not anything near truth. Even when a few people explained a lot of the problems were coming from the mod that was on the server you still blamed us for it all.

ok, i really dont feel like reading all these posts as im tried, but can we just drop it? do we really gotta fight? what do we gain? nothing, im sorry but im gonna say this again, im sick of all of this fighting, if you dont like the freaking rules then shut up and dont play, TBH i could care less if MHM fools around, it just bugs me when they spawned stuff and it made the game lag for me and others who where playing to the point where if we tried toplay we died cus of the spawned monsters and the stuipd players that they made

Spice, having conflicting opinions is hardly "fighting". It's called "debate". No one is slinging bad names or nasty comments. Discussion is a really good thing, not sometihng to be hidden.

I do agree on the excessive summoning part of the discussion:

1 - Don't abuse of the summon commands: if you want to summon stuff, do that preferably in open, wide maps like the MHM Village for example, and refrain from doing that in small maps, especially at spawn points

but if it's just me and/or another player who actually enjoy and/or doesn't care about summoning stuff, I think there's nothing wrong in doing that.

As regards the bad episode, "PlayerA" has probably had a bad day and "PlayerB" should have immediately stopped the "teasing". Please note that both players were MHMers.

I respect gopo, his work, and everything but if we have to be considered like "mobsters" everytime we goof around, or an accident happens, well maybe we all MHMers should avoid playing on the other servers except for MHM.

End of all discussions, it's easy.


On a side note, the BeefBowl mod as is tends to encourage a bad behaviour IMO:

1 - You can camp into a teleporter, let someone else telefrag you and gain all of his points;
2 - You can stay in the middle of the line of fire of another player, let him kill you and steal his points;
3 - You can go spectator, be a "pawn" (probably due to a bug in the code of the mod) and grab all cows and weapons;
4 - You don't need to play at all, just follow the other players, steal their cows when they kill the monsters and that's it

So I think it's really a good idea to use the NoBoost mod to stop the TeamDamage. In this case the bad episode has been useful to focus on some flaws of the mod IMHO.

I remember I sent many PM's to many of you saying basically this:

+ Gopo´s test server is GOPO´S TEST SERVER, not another MHM; so behave knowing that you´re not in MHM.

Well, clearly some of you couldn´t understand that, and now we´re having these episodes again. We have to remember that we can not have that behaviour in different servers. Really guys, is not that hard to remember; MHM is only one.

About the goofing well yes, I totally agree with Pots, Ice, Hellfy, the cow and the rest; I´m all for goofing, perhaps that´s why I´m MHM. I can´t understand why goofing could be a bad thing, and I just can´t see the logic in only focusing on killing monsters. As long as we are on our server then others will have to learn to live with our play style or just find a new place to play; really, I can understand that you don´t like our goofing when we´re at others server, but please don´t try to tell us how we should play on our server or critizice our game style. If we´re on our server and not annoying or disrespecting other players then we can play the way we like / want. The cow and Ice have developed this idea so well that I don´t need to add anything.

I want to be clear about what I like to see on MHM and CG:

I like chat. Lots and lots of chat! Chat it up people. Chat and chat and chat all you want. I love it!

I like that groups of you enjoy each other enough to goof off while in the middle of a game. I'm all for that as well! Somebody mentioned that they thought that goofing off here is what they thought we used to do at the <SRA> server and that is totally true while it is true too that at <SRA> we also got down to serious competition often. Usually the night would start off as all out war and would end up with stragglers either calling time-out and learning from the others where nobody would shoot at all. That was totally cool that we could "ALL" agree to not fight and teach each other how to do stuff like get into secret rooms or weed out a well placed spammer. Also, we'd all help each other explore new maps. Nameless Entity comes to mind first followed closely by Scify and God knows I'm forgetting countless others.

I know that after playing the same map a billion times it can get lame. That is were the best part of these servers and this forum comes in play. It is exactly that: "PLAY"

Get bored, grab a buddy and start trying new stuff. Find new spots. Try new skin hacks, try out cheats, take pictures, chat chat chat, and just simply enjoy that you are spending time with each other and you are totally supported by me to do it. I don't care if MHM is looked down on so long as it is because we are closer to each other and having a better time than everybody else. I could mod up the server to force people to compete or get out but it isn't what I wanted for this place. I wanted what I had at <SRA> and while that will never be possible for me or anyone here who was part of <SRA> I do know this is exactly what <SRA> was for me to many of you. That makes me smile BIG TIME!

Don't get me wrong either. I love this place and so I keep coming back just as I know many of you will. <SRA> filled a void in my life back then when I needed a cheap and fun way to burn my time. Life will show you that other things WILL become more important over time and there is nothing wrong with that. Hopefully many of you will remember this place as reverently as I do <SRA> and will be nostalgic enough to load up this old game again and come back for frequent visits when your life does take you in another direction as mine has. I plan to be here for myself and for each of you as long as the World Wide Web allows me to be here for you. Peace all. I AFK'd in a lava pool and died! WTF?
I fought a titan without dodging and died! WTF?
I turned off my boost and fired a redeemer at my legs and died! WTF?
I gave some MHMs the password to a testing server and admin powers and they didn't play properly! WTF?

And lastly, it's not fair to try to blame me for the problems of people having admin powers. There is a group that has been playing consistently on the testserver without incident for a while now. No one has kicked anyone, caused anyone anger, or mistreated anyone. It's simple really. You just choose not to do things that are wrong. Impulse control is something you choose not to have.
