Server Start-Up Command line...

Post by Hook » Mon Nov 09, 2009 3:08 pm

Server Start-Up Command line...
./ucc-bin server CTF-Face?game=Botpack.CTFGame?MaxPlayers=15 ini=UnrealTournament.ini multihome=63.209.35.46 port=7777 -nohomedir
The above is a Server Start-Up Command line used for our new sever at HUTP.
How do I change it to DM (DeathMatch)
Like this?...
./ucc-bin server DM-Moribund?game=Botpack.DMGame?MaxPlayers=15 ini=UnrealTournament.ini multihome=63.209.35.46 port=7777 -nohomedir
Changing CTF stuff to DM stuff?

Good idea, Hook.
My server has that same problem.
Before my start/crash map loads, it looks for CTF-Face, thinking it's a CTF server.
I can't figure out how to get rid of it.
I've posted on Gameservers' forum several days ago and have had no response.
Let me know if what you propose works.
Looks like a sound idea to me.

OK is yours on http://my.gameservers.com ?
I posted in the Startup Cammand line using a DM setting and so far it seems to work.
The default command line calls for CTF game type and CTF-Face.
Default...
./ucc-bin server CTF-Face?game=Botpack.CTFGame?MaxPlayers=15 ini=UnrealTournament.ini multihome=63.209.35.46 port=7777 -nohomedir
New...
./ucc-bin server DM-Morpheus?game=Botpack.DeathMatchPlus?MaxPlayers=15 ini=UnrealTournament.ini multihome=63.209.35.46 port=7777 -nohomedir
It seems to have taken the new command line when i hit save!

Seems like I can't tell it to use Botpack.MonsterHunt as MH isn't defined in my Botpak.int.

More to learn. Gimme the Aspirin bottle.

OK - Hold the Phone! - Something is haywire at GameServers!
Haven't been able to get the server to restart.
I even set it back to default.
Looked in their support and they seem to have a LOT of problems with servers crashing and staying down!
For one thing they use Linux! (not good for UT)

Just got done talking to Gopo.
GS has made these Linux files HIDDEN.
They've left the Config / Startup Command Editor on the admin webpage however.
They took away access to the files but left the editor that now breaks everything.
There's no turning back.
Looks like we're in for rough seas, Cap'n!
I put in a ticket about this.
I hope you do the same.

Moral of the story, if you don't have the files, ./mlds.sh, ucc-bin and others in your root directory, don't use the Startup Command Editor !!!

In the words of Duke Nukem :"This Pisses Me Off!!!"

Well Shyt the bed,
After a half hour of
./mlds.sh: line 20: ./ucc-bin: No such file or directory
mlds.sh: Server Exited
mlds.sh: Starting Server
./mlds.sh: line 20: ./ucc-bin: No such file or directory
mlds.sh: Server Exited

It decided to get with the program.

Update: Gameservers reset my ucc-mumbojumbo mere minutes after my ticket was opened (they must've seen the looping). Good job guys.

Fuzzy the right class for MH is: MonsterHunt.MonsterHunt
MonsterHunt is part of the MonsterHunt package and it's a custom gametype, that's why you can't find the class in the BotPack package.

Never used the StartUp Command Editor during my two weeks of server administration. I used to download all required INI files on my HDD (MapVote.ini, UnrealTournament.ini, etc.), edit them, then reupload them, all of this process via FTP. I think I had also to reset the server in order to make the changes effective. It's also better if you stop the server before uploading the new edited system files and overwriting the old ones.

I bet Gopo had already edited the start-up line on his own, maybe that's why I haven't had that CTF-Face issue. :?

Thanks POTS, I got the Monsterhunt part right with help from Gameserver's support.
This weird little editor doesn't edit .ini files but some Linux based stuff like ./mlds.sh and ./ucc-bin. These are where you specify your game type and other startup stuff prior to reading the UT.ini. Yes Gopo had changed that a while back but since FBF is on a completely different server slot, its predecessor still shows up as CTF. After my failed attempt and I tried to restore the default settings, the files would not update.

I hear that they got tired of taking support calls from too many numbskulls like me screwing them up so they hid them. Many newer servers don't have them visible at all. Gopo's did.

Wow Fuzz_Ball that's the classic "pain in the butt" story.

Hook why don't you try a European server so I may finally see my ping under 200?
http://www.k-play.de/produkte_bestellen_eng.php?s=

Anyway I guess European servers are more expensive...

P.S. Seems that SnakeServers is out of business. Oh well.

Update - the {CKD} Server Owner is sticking with GameServers.com as they should be fixing things!

The server is Back Up!
But I am afraid to do anything with it for fear it goes down again!
More later!

Fuzz - Exactly HOW did you change your Start Up Command line so as Not to "Disturb" the fragile server?
Do you have an example of the new one?
(even though I do not think that was our problem)

Yuck! I'm so glad I do the whole thing from my house. I could never do it on Linux either. Peace and good luck!

No, I DID NOT CHANGE any startup stuff. The default is STILL CTF but the tech, AZeid assures me that the following syntax is correct:

cd System ; ./ucc-bin server MH-DeadCityVillage?game=MonsterHunt.MonsterHunt?mutator=MapVoteLA13.BDBMapVote?MaxPlayers=$SLOTS ini=UnrealTournament.ini multihome=$ port=$ -nohomedir;cd ..

Now - Should I open a ticket before making the change attempt? I think I'll live with CTF for now.

EV'RY BODY DANCE NOW!! ! !! ! !!

p.s. Herm, the drawback isn't Linux, it's the inability to modify the Linux parts.
