Tivo

Post by David » Sun Feb 14, 2010 7:35 pm

Does anyone have Tivo or something like it? I am trying to figure out if I should buy one on Ebay with the lifetime subscription so I do not have a monthly fee. The ones I am looking at are about $180-200 with the lifetime subscription included. I was looking at the Tivo series 2 model?

I have a DVD recorder and I can record shows on DVD but it is somewhat of a hassle to finalizing and unfinalizing discs... Any suggestions?

Well, I used to have Tivo and I'd say it's very useful.

My one had it's own controller with a button at the top that brought up the user interface thing.
I can't say I know the details but it's good at recording and it's easy to make it do what you want. (Record a series, keep something forever, etc.)

Of course, I wasn't the one who had to set it up but from a user perspective it was great. Oh...and one other thing, it seems to record large amounts of apparently random stuff and I don't know how to stop that. Strange, but it's all at the bottom of the list so it shouldn't bother you.

We have 2 Tivo machines at my house along with 1 directTV DVR boxes (basically the same except the DVR has some problems with crashing)

The Tivos have always worked well and are easy to figure out. I would say get one. They make recording things very easy.

I don't think Tivo is/was advertised.

I could show you a picture of the remote controllers if you're still sceptical. If I can figure out how to transfer from camera to computer that is.

The Tivo has been very useful in most situations.

the only thing that bugs me is the Daylight Saving Time issue. I live in Arizona where we do not change, but the Tivo automatically does. So now the time on the Tivo is off by an hour. It does miss the recordings that we have set up, but it sort of bugs me when I see the incorrect time on it.

You think Tivo would have fixed this, because I know there are others who voiced this issue before.....

I have a Tivo series 2, supposedly with the updates software......

There has to be a setting for it that you can tell it to ignore DST. Call their support or look it up on line. There is "No Way" this issue doesn't have an easy work around. Peace!

I have looked, especially last year. On their forum, their answer was it will correct itself when the next daylight savings time comes around.

I made sure I have the most current software as they advised, and their is no way that I have discovered to set the clock manually or to disable DST..... I will keep looking though.
