HEY LITTLE GIRL, WANT TO GO FOR A RIDE?

Post by a nameless entity » Wed May 04, 2011 1:38 pm

Forwarded to me yesterday:

HEY LITTLE GIRL, WANT TO GO FOR A RIDE?

A 10-year-old girl was walking home, alone, from school one day, when a big man on a black motorcycle pulls up beside her.
After following along for a while, he turns to her and asks,
"Hey there little girl, do you want to go for a ride?"
"NO!" says the little girl as she keeps on walking.
The motorcyclist again pulls up beside her and asks,
"Hey little girl, I will give you $10 if you hop on the back."
"NO!" says the little girl as she hurries down the street.
The motorcyclist pulls up beside the little girl again and says, "Okay kid, my last offer!
I'll give you 20 Bucks and a big bag of candy if you will just hop on the back of my bike and we go for a ride."

Finally, the little girl stops and turns towards him and screams out:

"Look Dad, you're the one who bought the Honda instead of the Harley"!
"YOU RIDE IT!"

That was a good jab at Honda I must admit.

I can't tell you offhand how many times over the years that I've gotten "the lecture" from assertive owners of "Metric Cruisers" (and one Polaris Victory) where they almost vehemently explain to me for reasons A-Z why they chose their non Harley cruiser over the real thing. It often seems that it is themselves rather than me that they are trying to convince, to be frank about it.

I listen to them and then thank them for enlightening me.

Hahahaha! Fair enough my friend. I have always been very pro Honda. I never like Harley until back in the late 80's or early 90's when they finally created the evolution motor. After that, I started to like them a lot more but they still didn't compare IMHO. Lately, I've even started liking them more but I would still rather have a Honda Aspencade for instance ( http://www.google.com/search?q=honda+as ... 55&bih=864 ) over a Hog. I do like the Hog following they have. I do think they make a much better bike now. I do think they keep their value better. I do prefer that they are made in America and are so symbolic of so many good things.

There's no doubt that the evolution motor introduced in 1984 saved the motor company.
The twin cam engine introduced around 1998 was a huge leap forward. All other aspects of quality on Harleys took a huge leap forward too. Everything from brakes to electrics, and the method of fuel injection was massively improved too. Twin cam Harleys are way better than the old evo's and can be compared to any make favourably these days.

As far as the touring models go, it seems that HD needs to do some wind tunnel testing to catch up to some of the later BMW's and Honda Gold Wings for smoothness in wind and weather. No doubt that is in the works. The twin cam engine is getting old now, and there are rumours of a new engine coming down the pipeline. Perhaps we'll see this new liquid cooled what ever it is after the recession is over. All new touring models may appear too. I'll keep buying those lotto tickets. Hopefully I won't be too old by the time these new models finally make it to the showroom floor.

Are any of them water cooled? See how you mentioned the Honda GoldWing.....that is an Aspencade to me. I think they are basically the same thing. I love how the engine purrs instead of the standard HD sound. 86 model Honda GoldWing loaded! Ahhhhh! That is a bike! That was the last time I really looked at them. I'm sure they have basically only gotten better. I love the on gas tank hydraulic suspension controls and other cool stuff. I think I recall all of this properly. It has been a long - long time for me since I looked at the big Honda cruisers.1500 engines and electronic reverse gear. Cruis control, stereo and all that good stuff. Did I mention liquid cooled? LOL. Peace Nameless!

Harley makes a liquid cooled V twin engine for their V Rod line of bikes, but the Sportsters and Big Twins are still air cooled.

I don't know if you would like the new Honda Gold Wings. (I don't think they use the old Aspencade name any more.) The new ones are six bangers, and very large and heavy compared to those 1986 models you refer to. They're practically a car on two wheels. That's overkill IMHO. You might just as well go touring with a Civic. I'd recommend you look at BMW's latest touring model if you win the lotto in the next little while. ;)
