Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Post by Hermskii » Sun May 29, 2011 10:26 am

Hello all!

Please take a moment to remember all of our service men and women who died in the line duty so that we enjoy the freedoms we have. Maybe even say a prayer for their families!

I have so much stuff here to Bar-B-Q! It is going to be an awesome weekend! I have already been able to spend plenty of time goofing off with UT, playing on everybodies servers, testing S3TC textures, finding issues to improve other people's servers, downloading new maps for my servers, making my rounds on the forums, drinking beer, playing with my kids and dogs and all of that stuff!

Enjoy your weekend folks! Peace out!
~Peace~

Amen to that!

Here in Canada we officially remember our fallen on November 11th, the day the armistice was signed to end World War I.

However, we had our annual "pop tab run" to the Legion Hall in Elora Ontario today. Everyone collects their pop can tabs, which are gathered from all over Southern Ontario by this local Legion branch. They use the money collected from selling the aluminum by weight to a local refiner (they get around 62 cents a pound right now. 1000 tabs = 1 pound) to buy specialized wheel chairs for those in need. So far they have given out 1326 wheelchairs. 8)

Inside the front hall of this Legion branch they have a display of the names and photographs of all of the fallen men from the town and area. The display is very large, and as is common to just about every memorial I have ever seen, the list of the fallen for WWI is about 3x longer than the list of those lost in the more recent big one, WW2.
What a meat grinder "The Great War" must have been! And when I consider that Canada's population was only around 6 million during the first war, and 8 million during the second, I get a real idea of what a devastating loss those two conflicts were.

I'll just add that between Elora and my home town sits a monument at a crossroads that may have been a village at one time. All that is there now is a gas station. The list of farm boys who gave their lives is shockingly long at that lonely place.
I'm a man........but I can change........if I have to........I guess

I had a fair enough holiday weekend. I did not gets lots of work I had wanted to start or complete done but the relaxing part of it was nice. I did manage to give my dogs a bath and they needed it badly. I moved some staues around in the backyard and cooked tons of food on the pit. I'm eating a ribeye at my desk right now as I type this during lunch at work. Home-made potato salad too! Yum!

My big project, staining the deck and gazebo, got rained out.
But, for the most part, a really good 3-day weekend and memorial day.
