Oh the spammers...
I am getting about 10 new fake account by spammers a day. I may have to go to extra lengths to stop them which will end up in me breaking the forum I'm sure.
It used to be just a couple a month. Now 10 a day. This sucks! I'll let you know once I have got it worked out. Please point out the spammers as you see them and I'll nuke them quick. To date though, I have still only had about 5 that actually were able to login and post. Later.

The board is at the latest version now. There is still more I can do. They do have to go through 3 steps now to register and post but it is actually easy to script the process so advertisers have and we suffer.

Just a reminder (since I don't see anything new here yet), they got the newest release out recently: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 4&t=543015

No problem, just wasn't aware it didn't get tagged yet as 'official'. I guess they need to see it working fine for a while overall to see if any bugs might have been missed, etc. If none are reported though, then it'll be stable enough.
P.S.- Found out also that a few add-on mods are yet to be completed too.

You just need to get one of those boxes with the wavy text going on the register screen. Bots cannot get past them because they are usually images instead of text that can be read. The user has to be human to read it and input it into a form to finalize the registration process. As far as I know they work against bots.

TY
Actually, I'm using that box you mention. Even it has bots that can read the text. I even have it set to make them reply to the official registration email and the bot answers. There is more I can do but I'm waiting for a superior fix actually. Thanks though everyone. I usually nuke the bots in a day or two. Just ignore them but learn to see when they are bots too. Later!
