They are the robber barons of the new century. 100 years ago it was the industrialists, now it's these guys. Also, the small family farm is
gone. Watch "Food Inc." the next time it is repeated on PBS. Most of the food production is concentrated in the hands of a few producers.
All of these guys and others have successfully lobbied for a reduction or the outright elimination of the regulations that controlled their excesses, and the mess we're in and will be in for 5-10 more years minimum is due entirely to that. So it is no surprise at all to discover that speculators are behind much of the awful food price increases we have all had to be living with the last few years. Watch them howl and fight any regulations to curb their nefarious activities as soon as any attempts are made to enact them. We must also break the strangle hold these new age robber barons have on effective government through lobbying. That too is essential.
