Posting counts

Post by EvilGrins » Thu Dec 01, 2011 9:37 pm

Not to be overly bitchy, but the mods of a different forum (doesn't matter which) get on my case every so often about how often I post and, most recently, how often I reply. As if my being active in that forum is a bad thing.

Each time this has come up they've stressed I'm trying to drive up my posting counts.

Each time I've been very confused by this.

What're posting counts? What purpose in a forum do they serve? Are they really that important?

Don't worry here EvilGrins. I don't give a damn about posting counts. Well, I do if they are less than one. I go through the entire member list here every once in a while and any member I find with zero posts I get rid of them.

If you look under your avatar here it shows how many new things you have posted here. At some forums you get different forms of recognition for how many post you have. Some people think that if a person has tons of posts they they must know what they are talking about. Others think that because they have tons of posts that the person must be held in high regard. Some places give you a title based on how many post you have made and the title keeps getting better the more you post which could certainly be an encentive to post more.

None of that matters here. I'm pretty sure I have the most post here but I don't consider myself to be smarter, or better or held in higher regard than anybody else. I do enjoy referring to myself as the King here every once in a while but that is just when I make a call about something that really is only up to me to make and I have every right to do so since when it is all said and done, I'm the sole creator, owner, caretaker and bill payer of this place. When events arise where I get to just do what I want, I tend to remind folks that "It is good to be the King"

I get that line from this:

Anyways...post count don't mean anything here to me but yeah in other places people care. I too did once care about posts counts but I got over it eventually. Now for me it is just a nice number to see because there is really no way to get a high post count without some sort of effort to do so. I'd rather everybody had high posts counts than low ones. That pretty much says it all.
