Curious George's SRA Flash-Back

I have decided to recreate a early duplicate version of the original "Schwantz's Redeemer Arena" (SRA) to enable all of the non-under-standers to see for themselves that there once was an "original method" of playing this mod that was completely accepted, crazy-fun and all while spawn killing was a major part of the game. The name of the server is "Curious George's SRA Flash-Back"

I'm not saying that a later generation player can't win. I'm saying this is the way it all started and it was a BLAST back then too! The later addition of the Translocator into the mod and newer larger maps changed virtually everything and the Pepsi Generation was born as far as the Redeemer Only Mod was concerned. I luckily am a true hybrid of both generations being I learned on the original mod (on SRA) and was the first to serve the newer version of the mod with the Translocator.

I have it up and running now but I don't expect to keep it running for very long in the hopes that "Hook" can get his identical version off the ground thus saving me some potential bandwidth for my regular servers. You also notice that the map rotation is nothing but original maps. Hey, that's the way it was for a pretty long time before Schwantz started adding new maps, models and voice-packs.

I hope each of you get a chance to go back in time and see what it was like back in the day and I hope you are lucky enough to get to play at the same time as at least a few original SRA members while you're at it. Any thoughts from anyone about this?

All SRA play new maps we didn't start game Look for place to hide or find nice glitch make jump high u can reach high place u can't use Translocator.

I still use <SRA>Scify

lol...wow. Not trying to be offensive but thank God for evolution. Don't get be wrong I applaud those before me and credit them for leading the way.
Without them you and I wouldn't be here. But talk about Spray and Pray.....especially using the original small maps designed for normal UT play.
But again you had no choice, your hands were tied. We were lucky someone took the initiative and developed a Redeemer mod/server.
And I can understand the deviation from normal UT play but it couldn't of been all that much fun?
You sure it wasn't alcohol related?

Both of the last 2 posts made me laugh. Thanks MEAT. Thanks SoReal. Well well well. There you have it from one of the highest ranking generals of the new generation (MEAT). It was hard. Yes, we were all drinking all of the time but you are crazy wrong about it not being fun. That method was all there was and we didn't know any better for years before the mod I eventually changed to came out.

That server was packed to the gills with 16 people every night for a year or two I think. The players stayed regulars for years not days, weeks or months like the noobs of the new generation.

I too struggled at first to play the old way again but it came back fast actually and I won about 95% of all the games I played today. I must admit I played a guy that beat me by 4 frags twice in a row. His name was 0 and he was pleasant to play with and very good! No way he wasn't playing under an alias. He was just too good. Good like Vette or D.I. or Kind@Bud.

SoReal, be patient my friend. Patient for eternity. After having CD's and DVD's we'd never go back the way of cassettes or 8 track tapes. We can't expect these folks to do the same when it comes to playing this mod. I prefer the newer mod myself. I just wanted everyone to have a chance to see what it was like in the day.

MEAT's MRS server is the new king in town for this mod. His server has out-populated CG now for several months. He may be doing something more right than me by way of the additional mods he uses and the speed of the game and all of that stuff like actually changing maps. MEAT has stuck to his convictions and it appears to be paying off. Congrats on that MEAT but at the same time, I don't think you'll ever really appreciate the game the way many of us old timers do since you didn't see the process develop from the beginning. So please SoReal and the others who have heard enough, leave MEAT out of it. He put his money where his mouth is and runs a very popular server which is something we all had the option to do from the start. I broke away from SRA when I wanted to do things differently. MEAT is sorta doing the same thing with the same success initially.

I'm quite surprised my post was taken so serious!! I think the way several of us learned to play UT was a blessing. I learned to play this whole game via old school deemers. And I got nothing less than slaughtered for months learning the game. Spawn kill, spray & pray and hide & glide. It didn't matter... as it shouldn't matter now. Play to win play to have fun....... just let them play!!! I enjoy the new mods as well probably even more than the way it used to be. I'm not afraid of change!! I have moved on from the deemers for the most part (needed something to challenge them hard earned skills) but I never forget my roots and I am always thankful for seekers trying to improve the mod! Less the public whining and bitching! Like I said before--- ROCK ON DEEMER PLAYERS!!!!!!

You know me by now Hermskii...Just a little sarcasm (drinking comment) on my part and maybe a little jealousy for not being around in the beginning.
UT and the spinoff Redeemer are awesome games...but I always thought it could be more and so did you.
And admit it or not "Redeemer" is a better game because of you and maybe because of me.

In regards to SoReal and all those that were left behind....I just consider the source, laugh and move on....lol

Well that maybe so (and good - for attracting new players,etc.) but if anybody is like me, I move around to different servers playing a variety.
So this is ALL good!

I hope to have my server connected to the net within a few weeks - FYI.

Nothing wrong Herm in fact you bigger choice of maps that Meats does.He few mildde size to Huge maps.U got very small map ,small , middle ,large and Huge maps.

Hope some black and blue <SRA>T]-[E_OnE or smokey black *DARKMATTER* will show their old suits too

I'm lovin the "Old School" server. The fast pace and the raw brutality of it!!!! Just to much fun. I really miss the old method of playing deemer. Hope to see more of the old regulars on the server.

You know, I never really made the connection that we "old schoolers" love the fast paced frenzy because that is exactly what we had. Small, stock maps...

That was the challenge to me, beat the regs that dominated. Hmm. I guess I owe MEAT and all of the Screamers an apology. It is I that have failed to evolve.

Hi Mah. I don't have the SRA Flashback set up on a batch to start up by itself and lately the server won't restart after power losses so it has been down here and there. It is up right now but good luck finding peeps on it with it down so often.
