Re: YouTubeFest...
More surfing on YouTube found me this video, in an apparent "Trains for Children" series. Fun for kids of all ages I'd say. There are some really nicely framed shots in this first video. I recognize the blue coaches with yellow stripes as being sourced from CN (Canadian National Railway) If any of those coaches served the area around here, I may well have ridden on one of them.
(If someone can explain to me why this first video absolutely refuses to be embedded, I would appreciate it.)

Some CN freight trains operating in Michigan. The black tank cars that say "PROCOR" on their sides may well have been built right here in Oakville, Ontario. I'm not sure if they still build tank cars here, but I believe they still inspect and repair them at the Procor yard in town.
One more, for all of you train enthusiasts.

You're just too fast for me, David.
I came back to edit the post in Firefox, but video #1 still will NOT embed for me.
What am I doing wrong?

You had to remove some extra letters and such in the "code". For the first to work you need to have tjsIgxyxBUI instead of the tjsIgxyxBUI&NR=1 within the youtube brackets.a nameless entity wrote:You're just too fast for me, David.![]()

Ahhhh.... ok thanks David. I tried editing out the usual stuff plus the =1 part, but didn't see the & sign in there. Next time I'll try getting rid of all of that stuff.
That's a way cool "human flying squirrel" video you found there. Talk about extreme sports! How do those guys survive long enough to really get good at that? I watched it all so I could see how they land. I was wondering how they would scrub off all of that speed.

Re: YouTubeFest...
I've looked at number of train videos today, and this 2nd video in the "Kids Love Trains!" series is one of the best. There are many excellently framed shots. The winter scene right near the beginning was certainly a risky venture for the cinematographer to capture. And the shot at 5:35 was full of anticipation, as you waited for the train you could hear coming finally emerge from the forest and go by on the curve. Right near the end at 6:55 is a lovely sequence that ends the video.
(This one is worth watching at full screen

I just watched this. This was funny to watch. I laughed several times where I actually got a tear or two.

I like this over the movie or tv show called "Jackass" just because they do stunts and tricks, and have they good friendships vibe with each other, they do not the stupid body humor or mean-spirited pranks to each other like "Jackass".

Re: YouTubeFest...
Man those Train vids are beautiful indeed!
I don't know if any of you know this, but Trains are one of my great passions - Model Railroading is a big hobby of mine.
Just last week I added a very neat find.
I was in an antique store and came across some treasure in a small bag.
for $14 I got a bag of N-Scale trains that somebody paid a lot for and got rid of.
One of the 3 engines in the bag was a steamer similar to that Thomas Tank engine in the video, only the realistic version without the Thomas decor.
The engine is about 1" long and is all steel and is made by a company in Europe.
The other 2 engines are 6-axled diesels from the stream-liner era.
I mainly model in N-Scale, which is quite costly, so this bag of 3 engines and 9 cars was very welcome.
It is all pretty new too.
That bag originally cost about $300 to $400 I am guessing, at least - probably more towards the higher end.
These train posts come at a time when I am contemplating starting a new railroad in my basement - and also a Model railroading section on my forum possibly - what a coincidence.

Re: YouTubeFest...
Dang HOOK. You have done it all. I have a collection of train stuff from my wife's grandparents coming to us. All I know it it is in perfect condition. Many engines and such still in the original box. Most of it over 50 years old. When I was a kid we had a huge awesome track. being kids, we slowly destroyed it after my Dad died. The dumb things that kids do.
~Peace~

Let me know more about that train stuff you are getting, when you find out more anyway.
I would LOVE to hear about it.

Re: YouTubeFest...
OK all you hosers, or wanna be hosers, watch these videos. If any more Bob & Doug YouTube suggested stuff comes up, watch it too. It's like, classic Canadiana, eh!
p.s. If any of you yanks wanna fit in up here, be sure to read the rolling script, eh!
An' if you don't understand why goin' to Timmies for a coffee & donut is so important, then you'll never get what it's like to be Canadian. So pay attention, eh!
An' most important of all eh, why Canadian beer is better than American.
Oh, an' I should mention that we've had twist off tops for a long time now eh, so now we can get drunk faster than you guys too. (Which is why we gotta go to Timmies to sober up, eh....)

Re: YouTubeFest...
My next door neighbor brought Strange Brew over a couple of weekends ago and we watched it. My wife had never heard of it (and still doesn't get it at all). The movie was still funny as hell but it's a whole lot 'cheaper' than I remembered it to be. Still it was a real hoot to watch again and I was a teenager again for just a little while hoser!
