New rule?

Post by matrix » Mon Nov 05, 2007 8:09 pm

Awrighty fellas, here is wild and crazy idea.
But listen: I'm not suggesting we do this, but am only giving you something to think about.

One thing we all want in MonsterHunt is teamwork, right? Well, why not make it a RULE. We punish players for not following the rules that we've already established, so if we make teamplay a rule, we could mildly punish and police the individuals who decide to run the show solo.

And also, since we value our regulations and rules so greatly, why not make the server run so that when a players logs on to MHM, the Rule Screen remains on their screen until they click "Accept or Decline."
And have Accept allow them to play, and Decline boot them from the server, and why not put a five second delay on the buttons, so that they have to wait five seconds before they can decide.

Whatchoo think of that?

And since this is Herm's server, I'd like him to have the final decision to make. So until Herm says his mind on the subject, all I want from everyone else is their THOUGHTS about it, nothing more.

i think its a good idea matrix a little hard to enforce for example if you get killed making others wait till you catch up is a little much but maybe something like slowing down to give you a chance to catch up i do hate the lone players running to the end..
Its a team game so why not enforce team rules most servers have rules to be followed one way or another some are just not enforced and things get out of hand in DOU right now were starting to come down on rule breakers its just another part of the game...
P.s not sure if you know but if you log in as admin and use the mapvote kick it actually kicks a player for the remaining of that map maybe it could be used as punishment a one map ban for rule breakers that just need a little help in understanding the rules and what happens if they break them...

Yeah I agree with you.
It would be a shaky rule.

And I did not know about the mapvote kick, but I think that would be a great punishment to use anytime someone breaks a major rule.. a kick until a new map places.

And one thing that could be enfored: When you get to the end of a map, and you know you are the first one to get there, don't finish. Allow other's to teach and learn before the map changes.

There are no opinions needed here.

Only hard earned facts.

You do that and nobody will play on the server anymore.

You will instantaneously se the death of the community as well.

It would be a sad day matrix. Why would you think this a good idea?

The less rules you have the more players will play.
Also , you cant force team play. How many people have you ever seen on 3's server at one time? Do you know of 3s?

Herms rules are simple. Broadly put : No hindering other players way to play on the server.

Let me repeat myself.

And here's the stinger: if no one is up for doing something about teamplay, DO NOT complain that we have soloists on our server.
Period.

Who was complaining?

Not any type of attack, but what type of player are you matrix?
Race to the end or help others?
Leave a health for someone else or max out?
I think i have seen you help someone before.

Man it is really hard to read your mind, Kchan, to see what you're thinking. (That's a good thing on your part.)

It depends on the situation. If it is IndianaJones, and someone says, "Let's race!," I'll race. If its just me and a few other people, I will teach whoever is having trouble all the tips and tricks.

If the MegaHealths spawn very quickly, I will max out, if I don't see anyony near the health, I will max out. If someone is tagging along behind me, I'll save some for them. And most of the time, I will let them go first, to ensure they get some of the gold.

I see myself as a wellrounded team player. I'm not saying that I don't screw up, or accidently dodge and take all the sheild belts, but I don't go on to the server thinking, "Man, I'm really gonna screw stuff up, get on their nerves, and run people off." I get on to have fun.

sorry matrix but im going to have to against u on this. If u stick too many rules on a server there will be less people like kortniechan said, but i like the idea of the map vote kick u should use it sometime!! I think the best thing to do is to show the jerk players how we would like it on mhm. If they take all of the scubas, tell them to save some for the rest of the players, and if they continue to do it, then kick them or something, but in my opinion if we show most of the players kindness and how to share and cooperate in teams, the maybe they will change. I dont know though that might just be me.

Holy crap man, you guys are missing my point. This is the LAST thing I want to do to MHM!

I'm only trying to spark an idea in you all! I don't want anymore rules, I just want you to think!

Matrix, did you say Holy Crap in that last post? That's my line. Most of the opinions here are not right or wrong.

Consider this: I THINK that the idea in MH was for it to be team based yet something has to make the map finish and that id for certain tasks to have been completed. The player who is shown to be the winner no matter who finishes first is the the person with the most points. I DON"T THINK the game was designed to be raced through.

Now that I've said all of that stuff which most of you knew, I have to say that too much policing of the server is bad for it. I don't see a way that it could ever be watched enough and due to the fact that many people boot on opinion or the way they understand the rules to be they treat players differently than others would. That alone would cause unfairness which is what I think we're trying to avoid. There is no right answer but I do think I have a solid set of basic rules that basically explain what kind of players we are hoping to have join us here.

My admins know to try to warn first and try several times at that. Then kick the trouble makers if needed and warn some more. Finally, they BAN players who still don't get it. I eventually lift all BANs after I feel like it every several months or so. Tell them the rules, warn them to follow them, kick them a few times and warn them some more and then finally with out ever warning of a potential BAN, BAN their sorry butt. That is basically my process. Patience is key. Later!

It needs to be controlled is sum way.
lol heck, i play at most 5 times a day in MHM and believe me, i've read and heard enough to kno what is going on in people's dialogue.
Patience IS the key!

Four dudes in one post and your avatar looks like TMNT. Are you not telling us something Jman? Are you of the reptilian persuasion? Do you eat mass quantities of pizza?

Haha, nice Kchan, I was thinking the same thing.

Alright fellas, my work here is done. I basically was trying to tell you about a radical new rule, in order to get your opinions and thoughts.

And the majority says: No, there is no way to force teamplay.
Thank you all.
